TOPIC | Bellydancing help?
I'd like to start getting into Belly dancing, I had a small trial of it when I was in college and had a lot of fun. Plus I could use the exercise to get healthier!

There is only three problems...
I have no idea where to begin and I am not rich so classes are out of the question.
But the biggest problem is that I also feel very... well silly and self conscious when I try to do any workout alone and not as a part of of class or 'group'.

Anyone have any suggestions or advise?

I had a friend of mine who was taking bellydancing classes try and teach me some basics once, but it was really hard! Fortunately, there are a lot of free materials online (especially youtube) with tutorials and things like that, so the free bit? You're totally covered there. I don't know of any in particular, though, so on that note I can't be of much help.

As for feeling silly doing it alone? I'm the opposite. I feel sillier doing it in front of other people. I feel the silliest, though, when doing it alone while someone else is in the room. This goes for absolutely anything I'm learning like that, be it exercise, dance, or music instrument. I just want to be alone with myself to make my mistakes where nobody can laugh at me for it, or be one on one with a tutor, I suppose.

I think I could use some advice on not being nervous about doing things like that, too..

@Cormaranth

Funny we both get nervous but for different reasons! I just feel like I have a point and purpose if I am with others on workouts or in this case dancing. Alone I feel like I am just being silly with no real goal.

But thank you for the direction of free online material. Would definitely cut the costs of classes or videos!

No problem! I totally understand the no real goal part, it's why I kind of waffle around with some things and never get around to them. That part's not nerves for me, it's just indecision and wanting to have some actual direction. Maybe if you make a goal for yourself and plan it out, you'll be less uncomfortable!

Actually that's a great idea! Plan out a routine or mini goals maybe? I do love check lists...
Thank you so much for the help. ^.^

Again, no problem, I'm glad I could help! I need to take my own advice, too!
