TOPIC | MMORPG suggestions

I used to be an avid fan of MMORPGS and I want to get back into them. The gameplay should be interesting, but I'm mostly looking for a good community. I like making online friends. ^_^

So... Suggestions? It can be free to play, pay to play, private servers, anything goes!

Have you heard of Dofus and Wakfu? They take place a thousand years apart from each other, and I think the company that made them also has some other games in the same continuity. I've never gotten around to trying them out for myslef, but they're supposed to be really good

Guild Wars 2 is pretty good. It's a one time fee to buy the game, then it's free. You can buy extra items from the shop, but 90% of it is cosmetic. The few items that improve your account aren't needed at all to play.

The community is pretty good and there's an emphasis on working in groups. Essentially, the maps will have events that run which can culminate is a champion monster or even a world boss. For world bosses, you can usually have hundreds of players that flock in to help take it down.

you should try final fantasy xiv! i picked it up a few months ago and it's so good. i've never actually been interested enough in an mmo to pay for a subscription but i can't stop playing this one. it has a bit of a strong learning curve (you die a LOT in the beginning) but as long as you pay attention to what your moves do and use them in a rotation that makes sense you'll be fine. it's $20 to buy and $13 a month, but there's also a 2 week free trial and you get the first month's subscription free when you buy the game. there's also a new expansion for it that's coming out in a couple weeks that has enough content to essentially be a new game, and this is in a game that already has a HUGE main story. i've played absolutely obsessively for the last 3 months and i'm still not quite finished with all the story arcs yet.

admittedly there are a few jerks in the game, but for the most part the community is really great. i've met a lot of nice people while running dungeons as well as just generally roaming areas doing story and side quests. if you have any questions i'd be happy to answer them either before you give it a try or if you're confused after starting to play if it's something you decide to try out. (if you do try it out you should definitely join on the leviathan server so we can play together~)

@Ivy25bb I've never heard of them, but I like Square Enix stuff so I'll check them out for sure. The name sound like funny comic characters, though XD

@Demonically Oh, I didn't know that's how GW2 worked. I've heard a lot of nice things about it but paying once and for all sounds good. Interesting...

@Ena I have considered FF14 before. I know I said that pay 2 play is fine, but to be honest, the monthly fee is a bit of a problem. I'm a university student and I have no job, so, I have to be very careful with my choices. (Especially since the bills go straight to my mother XD)

When it comes to free to play, Dragon's Prophet is my favourite MMORPG. It's a typical mmo, but you can tame and ride dragons right from the start. It does have the issue of being a little pay-to-win, but I've barely noticed it so far, and the premium currency is fairly priced. It's not as interesting as some of the others mentioned, but if you want dragons it's the best I've found so far :0

Archeage lets you build homes and farms all over the server.

Wurm Online is total sandbox. You can dig dirt and alter the landaround you like making obscene hills that nobody can climb, dig pit holes right outside your friends doorway, etc etc. It uses skills that level up the more you use them. So no levels here. Also it's super slow paced with leveling those skills. It makes things more valuable but at the same time a pain in the butt to make.

Lord of the Rings Online is preeeetttyyyy much free World of Warcraft, but obviously LotR.

Dragon Saga is SUCH a cute game. It's sometimes a sidescroller and sometimes not. (The game switches between the two depending where you are at.)

ah yeah, that's true. D: still, it's a great game to look into when you have some extra money, usually i wouldn't consider it worth it to pay for a subscription to any game, but the quality of this one is so good i don't mind it. it's kind of funny considering that i generally am not too fond of final fantasy games as a whole. it just functions so well as an mmo that it keeps me interested anyway.
