@Babypoke

I don't have poultry (the neighbors down the street do and man was that an issue for a bit), but I do find that the different kinds of poultry are rather beautiful and can be quite different.

Now, I've been told that you can train them to follow commands (like to come back). How hard/easy is it?

How many different breeds of chickens/turkeys/etc are there? Are they considered to be different breeds or are they called something else?

What do Shiba Inus~ like to dream about? Is it dancing Hainus?
I love chickens and ducks! However, we can't keep them where I live. So if I wanted to get any, I'd have to move.

@ashotinthedark Well it depends the chickens on training I have trained a few while other I could never train. I have trained a chicken to use the little box at one time while she did other commands to. I personally think it is hard to train them because it takes a lot of patience and bonding

There are hundreds of chicken breeds in existence
Turkeys Varieties are often confused with breeds. Only eight breed, turkey, is recognized by the APA in its breed standard, the American Standard of Perfection. Also there are eightdomestic turkeys that are recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). Many more exist as officially unrecognized variants or as recognized breeds in other countries
Usally there named by there breeds and such

@Firetear Yeah I have that problem at my moms house as I would be able to let them out if I did have them in town.

We have 5 chickens currently. We had 4 little pullets that unfortunately were got by a dog. It was pretty sad. Thankfully the 5 are good layers so we still get plenty of eggs.

We were trying to keep our cousins dogs safe as they kept getting out of their yard and running into the road while they were on vacation. We thought they would be safe, but their bigger dog ripped the fence up from the ground and got to them. As sad as it is I can't be overly mad at the dog, some breeds just have higher prey drive then others. Our dog is fine with the chickens.

I'll go take some pics and post them!

@Hoolia the dog is still alive but lucky because my neibor has no tolerance for dogs he has been shot at multiple times. The owner has been warned quite a few times to keep it tied up or it will be shot

It's kind of funny, because I kind of had the opposite thing happen-the neighbors just down the street didn't have a coop for their chickens, so they'd let them wander the yard. Well, said chickens were still small enough to get out under the fence and wander the area.

Jiro has a strong prey drive and I started to dread taking him on the walk. I live on a dead end, so it's not like I could take a different route with him. I kept an eye out for any chickens out of the yard and made sure to walk on the opposite side of the road because when they'd get out of the yard, they usually were just on the other side of the fence.

But I was seriously getting irritated because they weren't being responsible and I really didn't want Jiro to get into trouble. When we came back the one day, I almost had a **** fit because they did finally cross the road onto the side we took our walks on. Almost, because then I saw that there were a couple of cops out there casually herding the chickens together while one got the lady that owns them. They eventually got them back into the yard, but I asked one of the cops what would happen if Jiro got a hold of one of them that got out of the yard. I was told he wouldn't be in trouble.

Figured I'd ask because I was trying to find something similar to this, but all I could find was the usual dog got out of the yard and into someone else's that had chickens and killed them. Don't get me wrong; if Jiro got out and into their yard and killed chickens, I'd take full responsibility. That would definitely be on me.

Then magically a day after the cops came by, suddenly there was a coop for the chickens and I haven't seen them out wandering since. I still keep Jiro and I on the opposite side of the road though; don't want to take any chances.

I personally would be forgiving of one accident of the dog getting out and killing chickens. After that though, there'd be issues. I feel that dog owners need to be responsible for their dog and know if the dog has a high prey drive, things like that.
