If it's college, then skip if you really feel you need to, because it's just a waste of money to skip (and I would know because I skipped many classes and felt guilty about it; college isn't for me at this point in my life so I'm not going back yet).

I know what you mean, too bad missing days causes so many problems in classes you don't have friends to bum notes off of.

it's always good to do that, srsly
just when you're feeling stressed or reeeeally tired, i mean.
better taking a day off and relaxing a little bit than not doing that and staying like that for the rest of the week

I read an article somewhere that it is incredibly beneficial to your health to take a day off here and there for mental health purposes. Especially in high school. I don't know about you but high school was super tough, things were more lax in college so you can usually get away with taking more time off in college and professors are almost always understanding and willing to give you extensions on assignments too.

I would say sometimes it's necessary, and other times it might be better to push yourself and go. Skipping can become a habit and it can be hard to draw the line between needing to skip and really, REALLY wanting to.
Especially when I was in a difficult major, I was so stressed out that I skipped a lot of the classes that were upsetting me and my grades suffered. But to me that helped serve as a signal I was in the wrong major! Personally, I always err on the side of not overexerting myself.

My stance: Mental health first.
Just make sure you're safe about it!!

skipping is okay as long as you feel it's in your best interest and will help you in the long run. everyone needs a break after a while. just make sure to not overdo it (like start skipping more than needed)

If we're talking about college, I would say try not to even start skipping, but if you do, don't make a habit of it. Be very mindful of the days you do decide to skip--you are still required to know the material even if you weren't in class, so you need to find a way to get that information, without becoming that person who leeches off their classmates for all the info. Don't be that person, please. I'd also recommend not skipping a lot at the beginning of the year. Professors don't look at that kindly. Also if you're a freshman...just don't. Try to get into good time management in the beginning of your college career, it's much easier to relax it later than it would be to start relaxed and try to fix things months or years down the road.
If we're talking about high school...I'll let someone else handle that, my high school experiences are probably not applicable to the majority of other people.

Your mental health is always more important than grades. Always. Doesn't matter if you're in college, high school, middle school, whatever. If you need a day off to get back on track then take it. I would recommend on a Friday or Monday to prolong your weekend and get more time to chillax.
I read stories on tumblr about people with stories like this, though my mom was never that awesome. Things like how parents allow their children a set amount of days per semester to skip for mental health reasons. Or the teacher who had the red bean bags of don't bother me, where the idea was you could take a beanbag and the teacher would not call upon you or force you to leave his classroom as long as a red beanbag was on the desk but if they used it more than 3 times a semester they had to go see the school counselor.
Sometimes you just need a break, and it's hard. My mom was a jerk who said that me needing to go to the hospital was the only acceptable reason to skip school. I used to stick my fingers down my throat to force myself to vomit at school on days I didn't want to go because then the school would force me to go home since that was their policy and I knew if I did it before school mom would say I was feeling better after and force me to go anyway.
I say if you need one take one, just don't make a habit of it. If you find yourself needing more than a small handful every semester it might be worth seeking help to find out why you feel that way and how to reduce your stress so you don't feel like that all the time.
