just please share and explain why (funny stories and rants welcome)
yeah so i can't stand sao or gantz (the manga) i finished both of those out of hatred and spite who's with me (sao soundtrack was commendable though, thanks to kajiura yuki's experience and skills)
also pls dont praise aot or opm too effusively both have notable and distinguishing aspects but
I get it everyone hates Boku no Pico my friend and I tried to watch it on a dare at 2:00AM and we couldn't get past the ice cube
Y'all are really angry about Death Note's (and yes the treatment and portrayal of women, again, is disappointing and appalling, along with the fact that the series just wasn't meant to be animated) second season but honestly it just sounds like you guys are throwing a tantrum that everyone's favorite "quirky" character left lmao
Also seeing plenty of hate for the usual 25ish episoders (Ouran, Kill la Kill, Black Butler, and so on and so forth) and in all honesty they're 25 episodes (50 if two seasons since the target audience is a younger demographic who's more likely to tolerate pointless fillers and ridiculously stretched out scenes). Series like those are produced solely for the sake of profit, so directors and producers are going to be milking as many tropes and popular tricks and gambits as they can without putting much actual thought and consideration into the story and characters in order to make as much money as possible. There's definitely reason to hate them, but there's not much reason to expect any more from them either.
If you'd like, share recommendations as well (just be prepared for a hater to come along and batter it down)! I personally believe some series everyone should consider are Hunter X Hunter (the 2011 anime and original manga are nearly identical and equally stellar), Tokyo Ghoul (the manga, which is fairly good considering the author seems inexperienced, but not the anime since the anime was entrusted to the hands of none other than the notoriously incompetent Studio Pierrot), and of course Fullmetal Alchemist (the manga, since it written well enough so that it deserved Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a much more accurate reboot of the 2003 anime). There are definitely flaws, mistakes, and complaints to be found even in the three I recommend and I'm more than willing to acknowledge them, so feel free to tell me if you dislike those as well!
every now and then i go back to check this thread and see what new things people are complaining about and i, a suffering veteran, recognize literally every series thats mentioned, even the worst of the worst and most obscure, and i gotta say, wow anime hating is a very effective bonding subject
- see there are series that you just can't stand and drop almost immediately
- there are series that you're unsure about but a distasteful scene seals your suspicions and you drop
- and then there are the series that are just so bad you have to finish them out of pure spite

- aot is just in general boring?? after the giant naked people eating people there isn't much enthralling about it
- isayama hajime, the author of aot, has extremely controversial and offensive opinions about the japanese colonization of korea
- i'm pretty sure i don't have to explain too much about the blatant sexism and homophobia in opm. like. i know the humor is top notch and very unique but. the characterization of pripriprisoner (i dont hate the actual character, but rather what the series and author has done to him) and the ridiculous lack of women / portrayal of the few women who are actually in the series are severely disappointing.
