TOPIC | Parrotlet Babies: {OMG MORE!}

INFORMATION My name is Beaker, and I have been hand raising/feeding baby parrotlets for over a year now. I was friends with local breeders who I purchased my first parrotlet baby from over 2 and half years ago. From there my love of parrots grew. I learned all I could possibly learn from the internet regarding owning a bird, and then researched even more. Today I can say I learn something new from other breeders, and pet owners.. even sometimes the birds themselves teach me something. This year marks the first year my breeding program has been put to the test, which means this year marks the first year for BeakyBirds (beakybirds.com). Ideally, I will be opening a parrot-specific pet shop in my area by the end of 2017. While we only have parrotlets who have laid for us, we have conures, parakeets, parrotlets, red rump parakeets, and hopefully lovebirds and caiques. Ellie and Pico's First Clutch! Yes, I breed parrotlets. Or at least, I had been trying to for the last year or so, since I started raising babies for a local breeder. :) My pair named Ellie and Pico have finally had their first eggs, now I'm not sure if they're fertile or not, but as soon as I know you'll know! :D Mom: Blue Pacific Parrotlet Dad: Heavy Yellow/Green Pied Parrotlet UPDATE: 2/4 eggs are fertile. Sadly no photos until they stay out of their nesting box long enough. lol. :D I also got to see tiny heartbeats!!! UPDATE #2: 3/4 eggs are fertile. Turns out I'm just really new at candeling, thanks to the help of some other breeders we now are under the impression that all three large eggs are fertile, while obviously the tiny one (which is not seen in the photo below) is not. [s]It is such a small baby, so my photos are really bad because I wanted to leave the happy family alone.[/s] I updated this with photos of the baby that I had taken later that evening. This way you guys have something better to look at, than that blurry mess. ;) UPDATE #4: THE SECOND EGG HATCHED TONIGHT, which means we have a leap day baby as well! We're all rooting for the third baby to hatch tomorrow around or before 4pm. And in the next couple of days I'll be taking better photos. :) UPDATE #5: ALL THREE FERTILE EGGS HAVE HATCHED. Now who wants to see how precious/ugly they all are, in addition to a REALLY happy momma Ellie! UPDATE #6: It’s always sad when you lose a baby bird, but you have to always keep in mind that it can and does happen. The chick overall seemed healthy upon review… Other two babies seem to be doing fine. Ellie and Pico are still such proud parents. Fingers crossed we do not lose another.. But like I said, they're plump and well now. In three days I'll be banding their legs with our BeakyBirds leg bands, and in five to seven days they will pulled from the nest for hand feeding! I had a health emergency and was in the hospital for a week. :( However, here are the lovely two babies (a male blue pied parrotlet, and a female blue light pied): Ping List: @Orru @aly922 @pandacow @Gher @Solitarianknight @PrismaticSkies @LizRosethorn @RainCloudSky @DragonPromise @Cheeba @dragoncrystal @Swiftpaw99 @CasualPancakes @Nysander @possumrot @Prior @KaidaMoon

Yay!! Congrats!! :D

@BushyxTail I'm sooo excited! At this point, I'm just happy to see eggs. It's their first clutch so it's highly unlikely they're fertile, but it's a step!

Good luck, baby birds are simultaneously the ugliest, most annoying and cutest things ever. Once they develop their fluff they're the best little puffballs ever though.

@Skub Right? I've been raising them for roughly 3 years now, and they're so ugly when they're tiny pink things. But as soon as they become tiny pincushions I love them immensely. xD!

@Beaker
I used to have a breeding pair of finches for a good while and the babies were the fattest little things at first and all you'd hear all day was their bizarrely loud "WEGH" demanding food. Until they turned into grumpy looking puffballs and got kicked out of the nest to learn how to fly and eat on their own. They'd always spend like a day just sitting there screeching while their parents ignored them.
The female of the breeding pair died when we had a really bad storm and she got sick because of the sudden temperature drop and humidity change :( So now it's just the father and his many sons chilling.

@Skub They are sooooo annoying when they're at their not quite an adult, but not a baby phase. They beg every time you look at them. Which would probably explain why the babies would just scream at the parents for like a day. xD

I'm sorry to hear about your little lady. But at least the daddy is still there to be there for his many sons. :D

They are so adorable! But I go crazy over parrots of any kind, and own a parakeet and a cockatiel so... Anyways, I hope the clutch is fertile!
