I have this HUGE crush on this guy I met online and every time I hear his voice, I get the damn butterflies and I'm always so impatient to get his messages but the thing is, we've both admitted indirectly that we wouldn't date unless we meet. but IDK, at the same time, I want something!
anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone has had a great online romance thing where they're now married? is your long-distance boyfriend/girlfriend from another country? how/where did you meet? or did you have a really BAD online dating experience?? please tell me!
PS if you'd like to know more about how my crush and I met, just ask! lol I didn't wanna type too much.
EDIT1: this is me reading everyone's experiences!! I love it!!!

I've only ever had bad online dating experiences. I'll spare you the details but almost every single one of them devolved into mutual emotional abuse. If you plan to have a LDR, meeting first is imperative; it sets the relationship up so that it feels more "real" than just "kissing and hugging" over the internet. It also makes it easier to trust someone after you've met them.
But idk, I've just had really bad experiences with LDRs so I'm honestly pretty biased. I know some people have had great experiences with it, but it just didn't work out for me. I'm in a happy, stable relationship with someone I've been friends with for a long time in real life, and I'm so glad to have him rather than any online guy.

I'm so sorry to hear that! :( thanks for the tip though. I was thinking the same. it seems so important to meet somehow so it feels real. because I mean, it's the internet and it's so easy to find someone else or have multiple people interested in you. but I'm glad that you've found someone good for you!

The thing with the internet is, it's easy to spill your secrets and emotions and get attached to people. You really have to make sure you KNOW the person before getting involved, and meeting in real life is worth so much more than some skype chat logs. Knowing someone in real life gives you an entirely new perspective of the person and it could either reinforce your feelings or turn you off completely.

Bad online dating experience (but, it wasn't really normal to begin with so you could count me out).

I don't think I completely agree with you about the meeting in real life being better. with romantic relationships yes, because they're so much more different and complicated but I think strong platonic relationships can definitely form online! but perhaps that's the idealist in me. I definitely agree on feelings possibly changing once you meet though! that's something I've worried about but I've decided to just enjoy the ride for now until things change for the better or for the worse. :) I appreciate very much your reply and advice.

hi!
aw, man! that sucks about your bad experience. no worries, I won't ask but I'm glad you got out of it!
and thanks for asking! lol it requires some background though. I'm Mexican-American, born and raised on this side of the border. and being surrounded by English all the time, I'm worried about losing the strongest connection to my culture so I joined this app called HelloTalk where you meet people online specifically to practice the language you're studying and so I started talking to him because he's Asian Mexican (meaning he's Mexican but his Asian ancestors have been in MX for generations already so he's definitely more Mexican than me lol there's a huge Asian community in MX! like Chinese, Korean and I think Japanese too) and it seemed interesting. so yeah, that's how we started talking and we chat every day :) he teaches me slang and more about MX and my Spanish has definitely improved because of his help lol

i've always been aro/ace, but i'm currently in a ldr with the sweetest guy in the world right now. <333 (i don't experience romantic attraction, but... it's still more than a friendship.)
we met in 2012 in a roleplay. we've been really close ever since, but we've only been together since late 2014. and i wouldn't give him up for the world. <3 since neither of us are adults or living on our own yet, we both still have to wait a few years before we can see each other in real life; even though the "one day" mantra lives on, we don't plan on losing hope anytime soon. i think it's great that you have someone that you really love, too, and i hope that one day you can meet irl as well!
i agree and hold the opinion that trust, above all else, should be a priority in a relationship. if one of you doesn't fully trust the other with anything you need to talk about or that you can't keep bottled up inside, or if neither of you trust each other with all you've got, then it's not as healthy a relationship as it should be.
