This post is political.

I am frightened.

In 2009, I helped lead the movement to keep gay marriage legal in Maine. When we failed, I was devastated. I didn't see it coming, and I was crushed. I cried until I slept, woke up and cried some more.

In 2012, I helped to lead the campaign to bring gay marriage back to Maine. I nearly had a mental breakdown. I waved my flag on Main Street for months, for hours a day. We won. I cried until I slept, woke up and cried some more.

This year we have a presidential campaign in which the two major candidates are undeserving of the Oval Office. We have Hillary, who is, in my estimation, the epitomy of all that is wrong with American Politics. And we have Trump, who is, again in my estimation, everything that is wrong with our society. I have joked, and laughed, but I can't hide it anymore. I am terrified. Not as a gay man, an atheist or anything other than as an American.

Today, in 8 hours, EST, this country is destroying itself.. This is my opinion, but there it is. We have the two worst candidates in American History, and this country is going to destroy itself, and it terrifies and saddens me to say it. I love this country. I have worked, for 20 years, to better it in any way I can, and this is what it's come down to. I'm sorry to say it, but, how can I take pride in a country that is doing this to itself?

Hmm... the person I vote for either loses, or the other candidate makes me wish the person I vote for lost by dragging it out and acting like a brat. That in itself is pretty nerve-wracking, not to mention what happens afterwards.

This is OK. Just focus on your senators and reps. The president only signs the laws when they come to the desk, and they can be veto'd. We have a system that stops the president from being too crazy, and typically not even half of what they claim is going to happen becomes a reality.

My writing project.
I really don't usually talk about politics, but yeah, I'm terrified. I don't really see a happy ending here, just less unhappy. I'm terrified and stressed and I'm really just horrified that these are the people my fellow Americans voted into the running.

[/quote] Not everything is lost due to the Presidency. Don't forget your Legislative and Judicial candidates as well. Your state and local are most likely going to affect you way more than the President will. Edit-Don't get me wrong-it's still a damn mess. But it seems like a lot of people forget that it's not just the office of President up for grabs. Another Edit-Actually, you kind of put into words how I feel about both candidates-one being the worst of the political system and the other the worst of society.

What do Shiba Inus~ like to dream about? Is it dancing Hainus?
Yes, it's terrible, but our country has survived a lot of bad presidents. America is very good at that. Remember the people have a certain amount of control; the president can't just do whatever he/she wants.

As long as it isn't Hillary I'm good. That woman is evil.

Well, I hate Trump, but not half as much as Hillary *shiver*
