*grins* well, I think there may be one or more great horned owls living near me! I can hear some low hooting calls outside that sound very similar to their call. I've always liked owls, and if this turns out to be true I'll be very happy. Does anyone else here like owls? I'd love to talk about this briefly, whether it's 1:00 in the morning for me or not, haha - maybe the conversation could be continued tomorrow or something? (:

The past few summers, a pair of owls has nested in a tree near my house and we can hear the little owlets making noise in the evening. It's quite cute.

I've always liked owls too. I used to be obsessed with the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books when I was younger.

@Hurricanesong ohh lucky you. i'm too far into suburbia to have owls, but they're some of my favorite animals.
are you aware of saw-whet owls?? they're amazing.

@inklizard Saw-whet owls are adorable! I also really love spotted owls, and, of course, barn owls.

We have burrowing owls out here. They run around like little people and they've startled me on more than one occasion. When the babies grew up this spring they were hilarious: they had no idea they shouldn't just hang out in the road and didn't know what a car was.

Anyway, you haven't yet lived until you see an owl prancing across a parking lot

One night, I was having a hard time going to sleep and heard what sounded like a pair of owls calling to each other. I got up and looked outside, but didn't see anything. It was cool for about a minute before I wanted them to leave so I could sleep.

@Azeri
Aww, that does sound cute c:
Haha, I was obsessed with the same series! I think the obsession has continued with what's a more general love of owls.

@inklizard
Honestly, it's rather a surprise to me, because it's not like I live way out in the middle of nowhere! This isn't a place where I expected to hear anything like an owl. I do know of saw-whet owls! They're honestly adorable.

@Watchword
Burrowing owls are awesome. And it sounds really cool that you got to see some of them grow up, haha. I guess I haven't lived yet, then!

@Gemhydra
They are really neat. So far I've never really come across one out in the wild.

@BattleATrueHero
They must have been pretty close to keep you awake o.o cool story, minus the not being able to sleep bit.

@Hurricanesong during the summer we get great grey owls in our backyard, but they leave in the winter and nest up in the forest near my house.

*tears up* I love owls so much but where I live the last sighting of an owl was 6 almost 7 years ago ;-; If I do recall correctly it was a short eared owl. Gosh I'd love to see one someday.
