While I sit here with my chronic back pain at the more painful end of my usual scale, I suddenly realise how thankful I am for my dog. She is currently acting as a heat pack for my lower back. She's also running in her sleep, so it's almost like a back massage haha! I doubt she realises just falling asleep behind me helps me out so much sometimes.

And of course, it goes without saying just how much she helps me mentally. I'm an agoraphobic - meaning I can't leave the house - And her companionship alone keeps me relatively sane. (Before the question pops up, I pay for a walker so she's not stuck in the house because of me). On the very rare occasion I brave the great outdoors, a shaking stuttering mess, she is very protective of me. She seems to know what type of people will set me off over others, and makes sure that they keep their distance, if they don't she'll yell at them. She's very in tune with me, I've noticed.

So what about you guys? How does your pets help you?

When I hear weird noises at night, I can say 'yep, it's the cat'.
Also, keeps the mice away. Twice that I know of.

Jiro provides a lot of emotional support. He makes me go walk him even when I'd rather stay in and stay in bed for the entire day. And he makes me play with him and I'm bound to laugh at least a couple times due to his antics.

When I'm really upset, he'll come over and lay by my side, ideally right next to me. He ends up looking so worried too! I hate making him worry about me.

What do Shiba Inus~ like to dream about? Is it dancing Hainus?
My pup is also just so calm, even when meeting strangers and that helps me feel slightly calm about it... He also goes into guard mode if someone starts "hitting" at you, I don't know if he'd really do it to a stranger, but I'd like to think so if they started attacking me/us!

Them my poor baby Leopard Gecko Mixxie (who passed away before a month of owning him had passed-no, his death was in NO part my/our fault!-) just was the best little guy! He was so chill about being handled, he'd find himself a spot on your hand or arm and lay there until he was ready to move around again... He loved climbing through your fingers and watching everything around him, he'd sit and stare up with those cute eyes!!!

Honestly, if it weren't for my horses I'm not sure if Ide still be here! One of the most therapeutic ponies I've met was Ralph. Though he's a grump when it comes to actually being ridden, I've always felt as if he.... listens to me when I talk to him. I'll sometimes chat with him when I'm feeling down or frustrated, and it's always helped me feel a little better.

There was one time when I forgot to take my medication before heading out to the barn to ride, and after I started brushing him off, the pain started kicking in. Though (I thought) I wasn't showing any signs, Ralph seemed to know something was up with me. He kept watching me, and started pawing and nickering when I left his sight to put the bridle up.

After just a few minutes, I nearly feinted from the pain, but that's a story for another time. I've just always found it odd how he seemed to be the first one to show concern...

My cat always comes to me when she knows I'm upset. Honestly, that's super important to me.

My cat Tuxie calms me down, and he's just so fun to cuddle. He's so so sweet and fluffy.

My dog, a golden retriever named Ruby, keeps my mind off stress and is fun to play with. She actually save my mom's and sister's life before. Our neighbors have very aggressive dogs, and on time two of them got loose and jumped out of the bushes at my mom, growling and barking. Ruby jumped in between the dogs and mom and scared one off while my dad ran out and yelled the other away.

Another time one of the same dogs was out in the neighbor's field, and there wasn't a fence there in-between out houses. My little sister was playing in the dirt when that dog saw her and tore after her, snapping. Ruby, who was a good bit away, saw this and ran in between again and and tried to protect her. That one dog tore off a chunk of fur off of Ruby, before that dog was called in. I'd never been more scared in my life.

Willow actually listens to me, which is a big change.

Seriously though, Willow is the first dog I've ever owned that's actually nice to me and listens for a change. My first good experience with dogs. (every dog before has been... not so good, except for Dusty, he's friendly but doesn't listen. My first dog bit me when I was four and I have a scar from that forever now. )

Maple, my cat, doesn't listen. But at least she's cute and cuddly.

My cat makes me laugh by the stupid things she does, which really helps me when I'm having bad anxiety, or when I come home after a bad day.

She also loves being near me all the time and follows me everywhere and "chats" with me, and it makes me feel really good because of how much she loves me. c:

My dogs are more of a nuisance than anything else. I have lived with dogs my entire life, so I don't know what it would be like without one. They are almost always in the way somehow. They are either under your feet constantly, whining for no reason, or repeatedly getting up in your lap, launching off, and then wanting back up for the seventh time. That and one of dogs is the dumbest creature to ever live. He can not for the life of him not bark at our cat for more than three seconds. Heavens forbid if we look at the cat instead of him.
