TOPIC | anime with GOOD storytelling?
1 2 3
Please recommend me some, I just sat through two hours of the dryest anime drama movie ever and Im dying... Movie, manga, webcomics if you want. Or normal comics.

Avoid shonen/seinen stuff, I dunno sometimes the action and fight arcs do nothing for me and I just doze off... Unless theres a GOOD one, thats there, then go for it. (I liked early beginning bleach tbh, right before rukia was kidnapped, it felt good to me. Although the dialogue sometimes was still anime bland, unatural/cringy.) I like really comfy stuff too. *EDIT*
Also, not interested in male slash story types, im more otome tbh.

so yEAH ANYTHING PLEAASE

I don’t know if it’s really GOOD storytelling but I thoroughly enjoyed Yuri!!! On Ice. A friend recommended it to me a while ago and I watched it at least three times through. It’s only a 12 episode season so far but there will be a season 2 at some point! It isn’t action, it’s a sports anime and it’s gay. Just putting that out there Incase you don’t like that stuff. But, yea, I really like it!

You might enjoy Mushishi? Imo Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has pretty great storytelling (although there are a couple things the original does do better). I also rather liked Sangatsu no Lion, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Kaiji, and Monster

As someone who's studying storytelling in college, I'd have to say Noragami and Yona of the Dawn were pretty well paced, well told and well written stories

91 Days - Set in the American prohibition about rivaling mafia families. I think Crunchyroll advertised it while it was on but then it just seemed to be forgotten. Which is sad because I really liked it.

Noragami - First season reminded me a lot of early Bleach. A pretty light and fun anime with likable characters. Second season though, it takes all the plot points only lightly touched on in the first season and gut punches you with the feels.

Kaiji - Some of the most intense, edge of your seat moments in anime and they're just playing Rock, Paper, Scissors. Don't let the art style drive you away, you will eventually grow to like it. There's a lot great about the plot but the main character is the best, he's got extremely real and relatable flaws and is super inspiring when he succeeds.

Death Note - I mean, just in case you still haven't seen it for some reason.

I second mushishi and fullmetal alchemist! Also soul eater is a fun one

Right now I'm reading the webcomic property of hate which is really good imo, great art and characters. For comics I mainly read superhero stuff so if you want marvel or dc recs hmu :P

Nothing does character development quite like Haikyuu, which I definitely think is worth a shot! Full Metal Alchemist, as a few others have recommended is also fantastic; although it took me a while to get into for some reason.

I'd also recommend Boku no Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Soul Eater, which are sort of similar in terms of having interesting characters, good worldbuilding, and lots of action (although Hero Academia does have quite a few tournament arcs, which are well done, but fair warning).

Then for something slower and a bit more philosophical, Mushishi, Kino's Journey, and Natsume Yuujinchou are all great as well.

K (Yes, that's the full name of the anime. Or 'K Project') Is a REALLY good one. It can grab you pretty hard.

Also recommending Mushishi as well. It is a very well done anime, and has a great story behind all of the other stories that it tells.
