To anyone that has an account on Archive of our Own - what do you think of it? Following the recent Tumblr purge that has affected SFW artists as well as NSFW terribly and unfairly, I'm down for a website that encourages artists and writers without oppressing them just for liking being part of a fandom.
If it okay for me to ask this, is it possible to buy an invite to Archive of Our Own with FR currency? I understand that this may be against Flight Rising's or A03's policies, and I'm just asking out of interest. My apologies if this is not allowed, feel free to take this thread down if it is not permitted.

i actually quite like the site! i definitely prefer it much more over wattpad but i'm picky when it comes to fics lol. there's some pretty questionable stuff there but i've just learned to ignore it. or you could just read it and have a good laugh.
as for the invites - when i tried getting in it actually didn't take too long! only like a couple days, i was surprised they work pretty fast :o (or maybe the policy has changed now? i'm not sure)

I like AO3 quite a bit, even though I really only write fics about once a year or so.
There's some really good stuff there, along with some garbage, as with any fanfiction site. (I actually use garbage fics as motivation; reading something truly awful will make me so angry and frustrated that I'll write just to prove I can do better.) I also remember my invite came fairly quickly. I know I waited less than a week.
The only thing I don't really love is the formatting for uploading a fic. It takes forever to make everything look decent. But that may be the case with other fanfic sites too; I only upload on AO3 so I'm not sure.
But I'd definitely recommend it overall! There's tons of fandoms on there, so there's something for everyone.

AO3 is by far the best site for fic and other fanworks. The tagging system is a-mazing, and the search filters are an absolute godsend. Also, I challenge you to find a fandom that doesn't have anything posted for it.

Yeah, I have to agree on the questionable stuff, and reporting it often leads to "nah there's nothing wrong with this" when there clearly is. But, with the filter system, it's been good.

I love Ao3 with my whole heart. It is truly a fantastic site for Fanfiction, if not the best in my opinion. And honestly the "questionble" stuff isn't really a big deal. If it's not your thing, don't read it. That's why they have such a great tagging system. The great thing about Ao3 is they allow EVERYTHING, so no one's creativity is stifled, but they still have measures in place to protect people (tags, content warnings, mature-rated restrictions) who don't want to see particular stuff.
I host most of my fanfictions there now. Getting emails from Ao3 is my favorite :D

I have never gone back to FFN ever since discovering the wonderfulness that is Ao3. FFN could take a few notes about the filter system that Ao3 has, it's wonderful.
I don't really write tbh, but I LOVE how easy it is to organize and search through bookmarks.

i don't use it much anymore but i adore ao3. its filter system is so comprehensive that it's really easy to find exactly what you want. it's way more organized than wattpad (i hate having to make """covers""" on wp eugh). the only thing i dislike is that you can't save stuff as drafts as far as i understand, maybe you can and i'm just dumb, so if it's your only writing program then you might be screwed. i don't like that you also have to use html to italicize and such, i wish it had an editing bar like the fr forums do.
but overall i like it! it's worth a shot, even if it's just to check out that incredible like 30+ fic chalk zone saga by the same person lmao
