1 2 3
Even though, this topic is debatable, at the end of the day, cats and dogs are no different, cats can be like dogs and dogs can be like cats, and we're all secretly animal people, not cat person, dog person, etc.
Opinions? and thoughts you guys have?

I had 32 cats once, I love cats! Dogs, I had about 7 dogs. I'm not the biggest fan of dogs, it all depends on the breed. But I still love dogs, just not as much (jk)! Some ups to having a cat over a dog is:
They bury their poo, their cleaner, their more chill, their hilarious, they keep their space, their easier to potty train, their smaller (than most dog breeds), they hunt mice and bugs in your house, lazier/you don't have to take them out all the time, their entertaining, they knead you, and their heckin adorable!
Ups to having a dog over a cat is:
They are more loyal, listen more, more protective, make you active, more excited to see you, and most are nicer to newcomers.
Both have their ups and downs, but both are rad!

i definitely disagree. Cats and dogs are VERY different. They have different body language and different ways of communicating with you. If you treat a cat like a dog or a dog like a cat it won't work.

And people can DEFINITELY be cat or dog people. When I was a kid, I thought you could only love one or the other and was on the warpath to show everyone that cats were far superior XD It was ridiculous in elementary school

Now I like both, but I will always love cats the most of any animal ever. I've had them since I was a baby and will never not love them!

I like both, but I've become more of a dog person because of my dog Rex. I think it really depends on good pets you've had in the past. I was only for cats before Rex because I grew up around cats, and therefor hated "smelly, gross dogs". But now I'm used to dogs after having an inside dog of my own and spending a lot of time with him. I love him to bits and he is super loyal/protective which I never really had in a dog before. Dogs seem to really like me and I get so excited when I see another dog and have to go up and pet them. I'm not afraid of their stench or slobber anymore and find it really cute when they wanna play. I love cats still, I just feel like I've forgot how to talk to them because "Come here! Who's a good boy??" doesn't really work with many cats...it really is a whole new world.

They are not the same and it is irresponsible to assume so. Cats and dogs differ in their social needs, nutritional requirements, behavior and body language, hunting style/instincts, apparent degree of domestication, training motivation, etc.

I prefer dogs, and consider myself a dog person, but that doesn't mean I dislike cats.

I'm totally a dog person even though my parents were both cat people when I was growing up (My mom has joined me on the dog side now though, lol) And I think people can totally be cat people or dog people (or other types of animal people. I've known a few horse people)

I personally don't think I get along as well with cats, and I know I can't understand their body language as well as I can with dogs. One of my biggest reasons for preferring dogs though, is that when my previous dog was still alive whenever I was upset or crying he'd come up to me and comfort me and he wouldn't leave me alone until he thought I was doing better, and I've never been around cats that have done that (Although I'm sure they exist.)

I've also had some bad experiences with cats before so I'm a bit scared of them unless they're old and mellow. Their claws also make me nervous, and I think declawing them is mean, so I tend to not own cats.

All my cats were raised by dogs and so ended up behaving partly like dogs themselves. I've never really had a stereotypical, aloof cat; they've all been needy, cuddly buttheads.

I like cats and dogs for different reasons and have had equal numbers of both. I'm pickier about dogs though and will only go for certain types and temperaments. I'll take any cat, so I suppose I'm more of a cat person because of that.

Cats and dogs are certainly different and I am very much not the sort of person who needs to own a dog :D. There are dogs I've dealt with at work (I'm a vet tech, and before then I worked in a kennel) that I really like and they like me and that's all good.

Still don't want to own one. Give me cats any day. They at least don't need permission to go to the bathroom. :p

Yeah, echoing what others said about cats and dogs not being the same. And yeah, you can be one or the other. I'm definitely a cat person. I don't mind dogs, but I most certainly do not connect with them like I do with cats. I just... don't have the same relationships with dogs like I have with cats. And just.... I've never been fond of some things all dogs do. Dogs are overall, too loud for me. Cats aren't typically loud, not like that and not often. Yeah I might be slightly biased that way or something because one of the dogs, our smaller one, we have will bark at anything. Raise your voice slightly? Bark. Get up fast? Bark. Trying to keep him from forcing himself past my legs so he doesn't trip me? Or nudging him lightly so he can get out of my way? Bark. And it doesn't help his bark is annoying and high-pitched. And loud. I think I also really like it when I can have an animal in my lap to cuddle me when I am doing stuff. Can't do that with most dogs; they're too big. Or don't like being like that for long. We've had maybe two dogs ever that I could do that with, one I never tried that with because she was old when I knew her and the smaller dog we have now doesn't like being held. And yes, most of the cats we've had were cuddly. Including my boy Trouble, who loved spending time with me before he passed <3 He loved to lie down on the back of my computer chair when I was sitting at it. Our new cat that we got last Saturday is proving to be a cuddly, rumbly boy as well! Dogs are also way too energetic and exciteable for me as well. Heck, our larger dog atm sometimes makes me nervous when she jumps around and is exciteable. I'm honestly worried she'll knock me down one of these days so I only really play with her when I'm sitting and when she isn't bouncing around.
cats do not bark at five in the morning. a++
Haha, and this. Maybe not quite at five am since that's... when I go to bed, but I have been woken up by our smaller dog's barking. When he's upstairs and I'm downstairs. With earplugs in. Yeah. And our larger dog, who gets to sleep in my younger sister's room, has woken her up with barking before because she heard something. As I said, I don't mind dogs. I just... prefer cats. Also, can dogs purr? No. Purring is one of the best things and I love it <3
