So I've been rehabilitating a friend's plant, and I'm beginning to realize (after about a month of babysitting) that I don't actually know what I'm doing. I don't know what kind of plant it is, how much water or sunlight it needs, and while it appears to be growing nicely, it also appears to be somewhat... sick? (Yellowing stems, white spotted leaves, little lumps on its body and so on. If any of those mean anything.)
Any attempts at identifying the plant myself have failed (doing the Google is not my strong suit). I did try to use an app but couldn't narrow it down.
When my friend gave me the plant, it had many dead leaves and (shoots?) and its roots were so knotted inside its pot that it was insanely difficult to remove. It did lose a few of the roots during the process. (I will admit that I had to dig the soil apart at one point with a screwdriver.) I clipped and removed the dead bits and left alone anything that looked living and healthy.
It wasn't being watered regularly either. One of the plants I suspected it to be needs watering once a week, so I've been doing that, and I have also kept it in direct sunlight.
It definitely has more leaves/little stems/growths now than it did before. But I really want to see it thrive! There is a bit of its root system exposed, and I don't know if that's good or bad either.
ALSO also, one side is definitely greener and healthier than the other, which is like a flip in reverse to yellowness.
In the last few days, I switched it to indirect sunlight, but I've so far noticed no difference in appearance.
I've included some pictures below (coming in a separate post)- if anyone can help me identify this plant and maybe give me some tips as to how best to care for it, I would be incredibly grateful! I don't want it to die (and also I consider myself a plant parent now. I have two succulents that live alongside this guy as well).
There is another re-potting in this guy's near future, if that seems like the best option- it seems like he needs a lot more room than he has.
