Flight Rising the Gathering: MTG Forum
Walking down a cobbled road you find yourself standing next to a shop where you can here guffaws, and yells coming from inside. A single door with 5 symbols in a pentagon, a sun, then a water droplet, a skull, fire, and a tree mark the outside. A lantern adjacent to the door illuminates a propped sign scrawled with "FRIDAY NIGHT MAGIC" catches your attention. Perhaps this is a shop of arcane things and wonders. Do you walk in? If you open the door inside you see tables with dragons, some seriously, some not, playing a card game? To the left you notice a small dragon waving at you. "First time here? Well welcome to the Gathering. Make yourself at home."Introduction
What is Magic the Gathering (MTG)?
Magic the Gathering is a trading card playing game that's been around for over 20 years. The game concerns 5 main color identities of white, blue, green, black, and red, each having their distinct characteristics. These colors are energy sources called "mana" which planeswalkers or other people in the MTG universe use to cast spells or other gimmicks. Each source is drawn from a particular environment; white is drawn from the plains, blue from islands, green from forests, black from swamps, and red from mountains. Lore wise white mana embodies mortality and order, blue embodies logic and technology, green as interdependence and instincts, black representing parasitism and amorality, and red as principles of chaos and impulse. These basic identities can be mixed and matched to fit your play style!
Players assume the role as a planeswalkers in the MTG universe; individuals who are able to manipulate mana and cast powerful spells. Your decks represent an arsenal of spells where you compete, friendly or in competitive, against other "planeswalkers". There are various formats people play in Magic. Some of the more popular formats are standard, modern, legacy, elder dragon highlander, (commander), and vintage. There are many other formats to explore like oathbreaker, canadian highlander, and newer formats like pioneer. Each one has it's own rules so have fun!
Well if you have more questions or concerns please ask! This forum is dedicated to bringing together players of various backgrounds and having fun. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

If you're new consider downloading Arena. It recently got out of its Beta phase, still a couple bugs here and there, but it's a pretty good introduction to Magic, mechanics, and priority.

Resources
Channel Fireball-A great website with comprehensive articles about the meta, tools like a buy list builder, strategy, and more. It's like the newsletter of MTG news.
Official MTG Website-None other than the original site. Has a pretty good card database, lore, stories, and more.
MTG Wiki-Great place if you're looking for lore, rules, and such about Magic the Gathering.
Magic Arena-This is the link to download Arena, an official version of MTG but has very few formats and blocks; standard, historic, occasionally brawl, and limited. Still in the works but if you're new this is something to download!
Magic Online-Something else you need to download, pay, but is much more flexible with more formats. It has its own virtual economy so be wary.
