lowkey rlly into it and kinda believe in ghosts/spirits/demons (however u like to call them) and stuff like that, but my beef always makes fun of me whenever i get freaked out or pause like "did u hear that". makes me sad T^T

when i was younger, my dad and my sister would "ghost hunt" w me, where we'd turn off all the lights in the house and listen for spooky things. s2g we'd hear the strangest things, like footsteps across the carpet and glasses being shuffled around. one time, when we were all kind of losing interest and starting to goof off and scare each other, the washing machine in the other room just slammed closed. it scared us all practically to death, and we had all been hiding in one room, so we weren't sure what caused it, whether that was something spooky or not!

my dad would always talk about how his house growing up was a little haunted, as well as some of the the old historical buildings he used to work in. i live down south in the us, so there's lots of civil war era buildings that are open to the public, and he used to work maintenance for some of them, so he'd be in them by himself sometimes.

No joke, its kinda strange. I live between two houses that have had people die in them. In the house to the left, my neighbor reported to my fam (not very soon after the old owner of his house moved out, but also very close to the death of the old owner's wife) that he keept finding the windows cracked open after closing them. This was strange since the person who died loved having the windows open. Needless to say I became sort of a believer then. (other reasons too, but that is one event that triggered it)

Paranormal? Can I throw in a little bit of witchcraft/shamanism, then? :'D

My country is full of paranormal and occult lore, of which I kinda proud of, but sometimes terrified of as well, because most of them tend to be rather common occurrences within my community. So if a couple of them are true, I can only hope that I don't have to encounter the worst of the bunch anytime soon. ;;

Likewise, witchcraft/occult practices/shamanism is quite common as well. My classmate comes from a family of exorcists. It's just that common. :D

My mother's side has this big beef going on with paranormal creatures and local shamanism. While we live like your regular modern city family, the supernatural practices are still done every once in a while. The "talents" my aunts and grandfather claim to have can be quite varied: from shamanistic performances to cure themselves of illness, to candle magic and charming, to down-right unintentionally cursing someone to their death within four hours by just blurting out a certain word on accident (yes, the number of hours is fixed, and yes, this has happened more than once). Apparently the "shaman blood" flows down from my mother's father, and those that carry the blood are often deemed eligible of practicing the craft. If you don't want your "talents" to just activate on random, you can find a shaman/ witch doctor to help you hone your skills and keep it under control. Or you can just become their apprentice. :D

But choosing to go down the path of a shaman/ witch doctor here demands payment. It varies from region-to-region, but here's my side if it: Having the blood of a previous practitioner alone won't make you strong enough to practice the craft on the regular. To become a full-time witch doctor/shaman, you have first experience a sense of "calling" to serve (you get really sick, get a revelation, etc.), then you offer up a couple of important items like betel leaves, etc. to the spirits, and then you make a contract/befriend a certain occult creature call the Kapre by including cigars in your offerings. If satisfied, he'll then offer some of his power to help you work. In exchange, the creature will now follow you everywhere you go. By doing so, you obviously need to open your third eye, so encounters with the paranormal become more common. Also, the contract lasts until death, so the occupation becomes a lifetime thing. (You can still have it as a side job, but the duty becomes a lifetime thing) There are different classes of shamans/witch doctors, but let's not get too detailed. :'D

If you've chosen that path then congrats! You're a shaman/witch doctor now. Go find your own neighborhood/city to work with. There's lots of people out here who still lean on the occult for worst-case scenarios, there's still plenty of fish in the sea.

A shaman once tried to convince my uncle into the craft after he was healed by said shaman, and another tried to school my aunt because they saw potential in her, but they left the apprenticeship after learning about the consequences. The older members of my extended family have their skills honed since there were more people practicing the craft back then, but everyone has a unique "talent" to work with.

Also, the older members of our family made sure that almost all of the rooms of our hous(es) had bamboo sticks with a sharp blade stuck into each of them guarding their doors. These were used to fight off the worse of the supernatural, should they ever choose to make a visit.

I myself haven't actually been schooled or taught in the craft, but I've had some "less-than-normal" experiences before (the minor ones being having your hair played with and someone tapping you, capturing some "friends" on camera, and the worse having to wake up to hearing one of my aunts chanting and chasing a frequent "visitor" out in the middle of the night). I tend to pay no mind, because we usually believe that paranormal experiences happen only when other-worldly creatures want or attention for help (I can't commit to help spirits, srry!), or for just plain old mischief.

RE: I sound like I'm making tall tales rn now, but I can guarantee you that the belief of the occult in my country almost always permeates into daily life. Encounters are often minor, and are often brought up in passing in daily conversations. Hardly anything dangerous happens, but if they do, we've got enough lore and belief in our heads to protect ourselves with. :D

And if a silence filled the air do you think that anyone would even care? Would they be aware... of the mounting snow...
weirdest thing that I've seen is the phantom horse in Colorado. It was a dark night and I was camping. I had gone out to get some air because I wasn't feeling so good. and then I saw it. A ghostly looking horse with glowing eyes and a rippling mane. I started at it for a bit. We made eye contact. I held its gaze for a bit the it just vanished! And the even weirder thing is that other people have seen it to!!

I've never had a paranormal encounter myself (and apparently I'm not supposed to believe in things such as ghosts given my religion buuut), but I honestly believe there are paranormal beings on earth.
