I've recently gotten back into it, and it's very fun. I've already made the Vault Boy agility picture from Fallout 4, and it turned out great. However, my success only made me overconfident. I found a Legend of Zelda pattern and thought, "Hey, why don't I make that for someone for Christmas?" So I went to the craft store and got the thread colors I would need. As soon as I got home and looked at the dimensions of the project, I realized just what I had gotten myself into. The finished product is 18.29 inches wide and 16 inches tall. That might not sound like much, but it's almost 30k stitches. What have I gotten myself into

Oh hehe, I recently gotten back into cross stitching myself. Made a LoZ heart. Turned out wonderful. :>

Then I accidentally found the thing called Pintrist, and I found all those quick gifs of embroidery. :| Now I'm teaching myself embroidery, and having way too much fun with it. I even learned about a thing called ribbon embroidery, and it's AMAZING!!!

I wish you luck on that Zelda screen my man. That is impressive.

That's the thing I hate about cross stitch. It takes FOREVER. I love the colors, hate the millions of itty bitty stitches. And the outlining that some of the kits have you do that kind of, sort of add to the finished project, but not quite enough to convince me that they're entirely worth the effort of tracking them down from the diagram to the finished project.

It really is well-suited to the older video game art like that though. I hope it's next year's Christmas you're aiming for? Does the stitch count include the background? Could you get cloth of a suitable color and leave it unstitched?

Cross stitching is SO ADDICTIVE. [emoji=familiar heart size=1] I've been incredibly tempted to do a large tapestry of every pokemon sprite (and try to make/ find traditional style sprites of the new mons too) - the idea excites and scares me at the same time!!

That is a sweet pattern. I wish you success!

My mom taught me to cross-stitch when I was younger, and I could probably pick it back up with a little practice. I like the detail work involved. I especially like the multitude of fun fandom and gamer patterns that exist now. I have a ton of Pokemon cross-stitch images saved in my Pinterest account that are a "one day" project.

At least its not all filled in stitches... Just imagine how many there would be if it was..

@Porkpie747
I live in the UK and a lot of craft shops sell kits.
I love them, they give you the exact amount of thread and Aida needed.

The other thing craft shops do here is teach you how to do stuff.
I had a pattern that wanted french knots for a ladybug's spots. I'm a stickler to the pattern and even though I technically could just swap the french knots for beads I wanted to stick at it. So I stormed over to a craft shop and got the help I craved.
I now know how to do them but French knots are still the bane of my crafting life...

One day... one day I will make my own patterns...

@Sennethe I'm doing it on white aida cloth, but I've seen pictures of other people who have done it on white cloth and it looked fine. And at this point it will probably be for their birthday, which is in February. @AthenaMinerva Oh, I have to fill in all those shapes. The water, the rocks, all of it [emoji=banescale scared size=2]

That's still way faster than I manage. I'm lucky if I finish within a year or two. I tend to get bored and drop it for a while and then come back, etc. Good luck and don't forget to take eye and back breaks.
