i was just wondering if i'm the lone goth kid on flight rising or if there was anyone out there with the same taste as me. my favorite goth/gothic/deathrock bands are
- the cure
- bauhaus
- type o negative (they're really more gothic metal but i still count them a little)
- christian death
- sisters of mercy
- clan of xymox
- joy division
- the sound
- the danse society
- mephisto walz
- tones on tail
- daniel ash and peter murphy's solo work
- burning image
- siouxsie and the banshees
- fields of nephilim
- rozz williams's solo stuff
I've been listening to the music my whole life because my parents have loved it since their teenage years, but i began to start dressing the part in middle school. my favorite clothing/hair/makeup styles are deathrock and batcave. In addition to post punk or goth, i love metal music as well. probably equally.
what are your favorite goth bands or bands of similar genres? how long have you been a part of the scene? do you have a favorite type of style? are there any other music genres you appreciate or enjoy?

I was a damn good little goth kid in middle school. Mostly because I listed to J-Rock music though, and nothing really American. =\ I could still list off a bunch of groups I still listen to that were VK/Gothic. And I love them to death. My absolute favorite was Dir en Grey though, because omg they were/are amazing, and they can be counted as death metal.
Sadly I MOSTLY grew out of it when I hit high school. But once I hit college I got interested in gothic lolita, so I would dress up in cute lacy frufru dresses, but they were all in black, and it was amazing. I will still go out in it when I feel like it, which is...almost always. :> I don't listen to the music anymore though, except the bands I knew of in middle/high school. (Oh, I'm 29 now, if that puts anything in perspective.)
So I'm now a cutesy gothic lolita girl, who listens to Japanese/Chinese/Korean music. I'm even about to dye my hair magenta because I'm BORED. :> So that is me.

[s] I'd consider myself "emo", but people always call me goth. So I guess I go half and half and say i'm just an up-to-date-goth. So that's me.
I guess I dress very goth but listen more to emo music?? I dunno. But some music artists I like is/are Marilyn Manson, Korn, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Cage the Elephant, Milky Chance and Michael Jackson.
And I dress with spikes, (fake/vegan) leather, all black/grey, usually gloves, all black converse, hoodies, painted black nails, rings, crystals/stones (with meanings), and I have a regular emo hairstyle. Not to mention I take part in vulture culture.
And I'm quite a lonely bean that likes to draw and listen to music alone even at school...[/s]
[b]Oh WOW is this old, I'm not as emo as much as I'm most definitely gothic punk/metalhead haha; and proud to be so!! Same bands though haha, with more grunge/punk thrown in etc. Basically anything alt. I love. Standing out is what I love to do, and look great doin' it, inspired quite a few peers to join us alts and I love it

im more of a wannabe goth than anything. i dress more like a low-effort mall goth than a traditional goth but i highly admire traditional goth fashion and id love to look more like that someday. i have a vast music taste but i do like a lot of the bands you listed!

spencer - they/he/ix - fr +1
I’m more of a school Emo? Y’know, Bowling for Soup, New Found Glory, blink-182, Early Avril Lavigne, ECT.
But I also like other emo/punk sorta bands like t.a.T.u., Papa Roach, Evanescence, MCR, FOB and Early P!ATD.
Paramore is a favourite though. I love their old stuff and their new stuff!
I’m interested in Gothic Lolita fashion but I also like your classic Emo chains, fingerless gloves, black and red socks and so on.
But my music is extremely varied but Emo/Punk/Scene are favourites of mine :)

MIDNIGHT LOOMING, TRAPPED BY DESPERATION TO REMAIN
Yeah but I wouldn’t really label myself. I did when I was younger. I had a bigger “emo” scene when I was in middle school, but I’ve always felt more of a pull towards goth style.
I tend to be more into like heavy metal and such but enjoy gothic rock as well (including some bands mentioned)!
Edit: But I miss how things used to be years ago. Hard to explain really, but I sort of fell out of it with Hot Topic. If you guys know other nice places to shop let me know? If actually travel if I could find somewhere decent. Where I live is small so all we had was Hot Topic.

I am also a goth wannabe, kind of. I'm really into alt fashion in general though, and I have a horse, so I've got a really fragmented wardrobe. Its like, the old emo clothes I wore in high school, the jeans and work shirts I need for horses, some hippy stuff, and then a small, cherished, pile of gothic formal wear for when I get to dress up.
Music wise I'm still getting into it? I listen to a few gothic musicians, but their music is more indie than goth (ie- Zola Jesus, Chelsea Wolfe), but I'm starting to get into Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as Bauhaus.
@
Ragsy - I feel the same way! I really like Killstar, but they're a bit overpriced. I love window shopping punkrave, but they're even crazier than killstar price wise lol.
I will say though, I've had some luck as re-purposing bohemian and hippy clothes to be goth? so it might be worth checking like, target or something lol.

I used to get lumped in with the goths because of how I dressed and some of my music interests, but I never considered myself one. Not saying I'm upset about being lumped in, nothing wrong with being goth, I just didn't think I was one. But I don't really think of myself as anything, I just like what I like, you know?
But thank you folks for the music recs because some of those I hadn't heard before and I'm enjoying what I've looked up.
