The first shiny I got that I was really trying to get was a Deerling that I got while hatching the last remaining eggs before I restarted that file because my sister said I should just in case.
(I also was shiny breeding for a Snivy on and off for like half a year on Ultra Moon)

My shinies are a Crustle and a Yanmega I got by going through the Ultra Wormholes. Ultra Moon is my first and only Pokemon game, so I had to look up the Crustle to verify that I actually got a shiny.

-i failed a shiny jigglypuff because i went to turn on my light to take a better picture, sat down, muscle memory kicked in, and i accidentally ran.

-i got one of my oldest hunts done yesterday! void glitched Shaymin in Diamond, kinda had the file sitting there for about a year. that was hype :D

I didnt consider myself a shiny hunter but...I guess I kind of am?? so heres some stories
weirdest one, was when I was playing ORAS and I checked my dex in an area and realized I was missing shuppet so I was like oops! better look for em! and I was like lol theyre horde exclusive wouldnt it be funny if I got a shiny? and lo and behold. I was happy but also felt Scalped
worst experience of my life was when I was hunting shiny blacephalon and I found a shiny buneary. and I was like oh. well okay he's kinda cute right? I named him tutu and I sent him to a box to await judgement and then like an hour later I found a female shiny buneary. and while seeing her in such pure anger my brain went and accessed that meme about the bright pink dog that says THIS HOT PINK ***** WAS NAMED BREAKFAST and thats what I named her and I slammed her into my friends hands because I was so peeved
and then I think I've said this before and I don't mean to toot my own horn too much but I like shiny legendary hunting, and because I can only get one, I want them to have an ideal nature. so I have the policy of resetting if the shiny I caught doesnt have the nature I was after, which is theoretically 50/50
I keep true to this word but my track record is spotty; the most times I've killed a shiny legendary is 5, and both kalos legendaries, insanely, came to me shiny with their ideal nature within about 20 minutes of me starting the hunt (love them), I'd say on average it takes closer to 3 shinies
I think the time people were most upset at me was when I was going after a shiny kyogre and I specifically wanted to catch it in a beast ball, and the absolute best catch rate you can swing for that is 2.5%. I caught one, it didnt have the nature I wanted, so f to him
absolute shining STAR of all my shiny legy hunts is my shiny smeargle, Noddy; I have 0 memories of how hard hatching her was, I'm going to estimate 600 eggs but she is so perfect and she helps so much in bagging the toughies that no matter the effort she is worth it

i'm still trying to SR for Type:Null. i could probably repeat the dialougue off by heart. the lack of a shiny animation and the sheer subtleness of the shiny keeps me practically paranoid, too. it'd be so easy to reset over it...
Guzzlord was my worst. i was spending every moment i could just tapping after it. after all, it literally fills the entire screen. a shiny should be obvious, right?
~5000 encounters later, i get tired and have a break from hunting. a month-long break. i then, eventually, decide "just one hour" and reach out to get my headphones.
third reset and the screen fills with white and orange.
shout out to my beloved Ho-Oh. being my favourite shiny legendary, i knew i needed to prioritise it. well, until i realised it was a member of the group of legends i'd already caught in US. others include Mewtwo, Dialga, and- triggering a need to do an eventual reset of the whole game to get again- Xerneas.
so i reset my OR file, which was a nuzlocke halfway through, sprinted through the entire game, and went for that bird with everything i could.
i got to the bird itself at, ah, 8am on a lazy Sunday. to the point where i was practically dozing off during the resets. to the point where what grabbed my attention was just a flick of silver as the camera rotated past it. that woke me up.
i did have to MB it, which i was annoyed about, but it's only got 20 PP total and even with Para i was worried.
'nother shout out to Terrakion. i'd been looking for Suicune spots so i could hunt it, but kept running into green spots with Terrakion instead. so i went 'well, evidently it wants me to hunt it, so let's go put maybe an hour or two into it'.
i didn't need an hour or two. i needed two minutes. big guy scared the life outta me, lemme tell ya.
for my short Masuda hunts, i'm singling out Fennekin, Chespin, Clauncher, Tyrunt, Nidoran(male), Hawlucha, and Rowlet, not in order. all of these guys were sub-200 eggs. in particular, Clauncher was in the low 50's, with Fennekin in second place.
for long hunts, well... Minior, Spiritomb, Ralts (wanted male), and Rockruff (to be Dusk).
the former two were agonisingly long and saw me cleaning my boxes many times, while the latter are still unfinished- the former took so long just to give me a female that i abstained from continuing, and the latter i just... put to one side. doesn't help i've already got both other Lycanrocs through SOS.
actually, yeah, let's talk SOS chaining. i've already gotten every chainable 'mon i like shiny, so it's been the cause of most of my shinies. from Fletchling and Cubone to Larvitar and Krokorok.
for me, if a chain is getting too long, i just reset and start again, to conserve supplies. i also don't hunt call-only 'mons through SOS.
i've gotten so many shinies this way at this point that i can't remember who was particularily long, and who just felt long. instinct tells me Roggenrola, Zorua, Feebas, Noibat and both my Rockruff were short, and Eevee, Fletchling and Larvitar were long.
Salandit (female) was an... interesting hunt to approach, as of course you need a male with Cute Charm, no 'mon of which can learn False Swipe. my strategy ended up alternating between a low-level Sylveon whose Pound left a Salandit weak but alive as a good caller, then when his level got so high it wouldn't work, i just switched to a lv 70 Wigglytuff and went for full-HP calling. a struggle, but eventually i got the girl.
also, massive yell for my back-to-back SOSs. was wandering around on Melemele after having finished my Rockruff hunt earlier that day, first day of ever having a Shiny Charm (later that day, i'd get the Roggenrola, too). decided 'might as well go after Rufflet' and had a shiny spawn in at 11 encounters, blowing my mind (chain odds only work at 40 encounters). so, happy, i left, wandered into the grass, saw an Al. Meowth, went 'haha what's this thing's shiny' and got it spawn in. 8th encounter. not even 5 minutes after Rufflet.
and...finishing with my first and my REs. backwards order.
Absol in Mt Lanakila, full odds, a shiny i'd wanted for a long time but had proven nothing but painful to hunt.
Ariados in early Ula'ula island, full odds, just happened to take the wrong route back to the Pokemon Centre and didn't regret it.
Golett in Route 10 (X), full odds, was trying to catch a Houndor and got a lil guy i've absolutely treasured instead.
and... Litten. accidental Masuda hatch, no charm, 32nd egg. My Masuda record.
at the time i'd just starting using online features, so when i got WT'd a japanese Litten, i thought it the most wonderful thing. and when a memory translated as 'foreign + your own mon breeds something good', i got just over a box of eggs. didn't hatch 'em.
fastforward to post-Champion. i've got full-level Poke Pelago now, so i throw the eggs in there and hatch them in batches of 18. while i waited, i considered shiny Litten and eventually decided it was adorable, though of course i wasn't going to get one-
i treasure that lil guy. so much. he's now a fully evolved Incineroar, my Smash main, a champion of two regions, and so much more.
