Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only way to get them legitimately. That, or trade with someone else who has them.
Although, there is a way to get a Mew, but it involves having a Wii, the wiigame My Pokemon Ranch and a copy of....I think it was Pearl or Diamond. Plus there's Deoxys in the endgame of OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire.
You could also get a Jirachi from Pokemon Channel, but that would need Ruby or Sapphire...and a lot of time. Plus, I think it was region-locked to just Europe and Australia versions...
Other than those, there are some that can be obtained with glitches in older games, like Darkrai. But I don't know the details on those.

That's because, iirc, you can't trade legitimate mythicals on the GTS (Something to do with the special event ball, or ribbons, I think?), so if you did see any on there, it's a 99.99% chance they've been hacked. Doesn't stop people from asking for them because you CAN do that, which was incredibly stupid of the Pokemon company :/

so all the mythicals in the gen 6 gts are hacked? I mean I was sure 90% of them were since they all had something weird but some of them just looked normal

aside from the event, glitched to, or hacked ones, there's two in the main series (that i know of, anyways):
1) Deoxys. ya get it in OR/AS as part of the postgame Delta Emerald chapter, ya even battle 'n catch it and everything. i don't think many people realise it's Mythical, though.
(is it in R/S/E? probably. idk)
2) the 3DS virtual console's Crystal lets ya encounter Celebi in postgame. it's exactly like the event, except there's no time limit for it or anythin' like that. heck, i've heard ya can shiny hunt it and everything.
i mean, there's also Meltan, but seeing as they stopped the shiny events on it, i don't care about it anymore.

I tried trading for one last year, out of curiosity, and it kicked me out of the GTS and then gave me a 24 hour trading ban :/

yeah, ya can get it as a virtual console game in the eShop. Gold and Silver, too, but Crystal's the only one with Celebi. you can even use Bank with it.
i fully intend to get it one day purely for the ultimate shiny hunt

I don't think there's a way to get most of them legitimately currently, but like... depending on what game you're playing I could get you some if you want lol
