What if i said neither.

Though ig it depends on franchise

I dont like vampires at all. Just chucking that out there. And some werewolves from some franchises are just... not great ideas. Twilight “werewolves”, big no. Van Helsing werewolves, yeah.
I’m also confused about BTVS werewolves. They changed the first design to a more scary looking monkey design and I hate it. Fight Joss Whedon? Yes.

Vampires are just creepy. No matter the franchise.

To date the best werewolves I've seen were the ones in Dog Soldiers - for a lower budget film they really got the werewolves done very well.

The Van Helsing film also did werewolves, vampires and the Frankenstine monster really well also.

Personally the problem werewolves and vampires have is that half the films with them tend to try and play up to the "dark themes" and often lower budget so you end up with lots of very dark scenes with very shadowy elements going on so that you hardly see much of what is going on half the time. Was a shame that Blade never really pushed into werewolves or outside of Vampires; but then again often as not when you try and add more and more and more fantasy to a "its the real world with a hidden society of monsters" you end up with an increasing mess of confusion.

Now you know who I'd love to see do werewolves and vampires - Guillermo del Toro. Heck throw money at him and let him go wild making fantasy series!

Vampires.

They might be dead, and I've always found the whole "literally burning in the sun" concept stupid, but they're usually portrayed in a less... er, feral? animalistic? sort of way.

I'd always prefer werewolves, because I think vampires are overrated. I would actually like it if vampires these days are truly beasts and monsters who will literally kill you and not a hot sexy person who will sparkle in the sunlight...oof
At least werewolves have some sort of beastiality in them and I always enjoy someone's struggle with their lycanthropy.

I'd enjoy vampires if they have a design where they slightly turn bat-like and grow fangs, but not turning into bats completely.

For werewolves I like a semi humanoid design, like those in Van Helsing dang that's probably the best design I've seen in movies and not too humanoid like in The Wolfman (or even worse teen wolf maybe oof) I just think he looks like a monkey or something, and not too wolf-like like those in Twilight...they're just larger wolves...

Werewolves all the way, and also agreeing that my favourites are the ones that actually look like big, bipedal wolves, rather than regular wolves or, even worse, monkeys.

My favourite werewolf depiction was in the Dr Who episode "Tooth And Claw". Absolutely perfect werewolf visually, especially given the budget. And yeah, seconding Dog Soldiers as well.

The werewolves in Buffy and Harry Potter were abominations.
The werewolves in Buffy and Harry Potter were abominations.
They did ok but you could really tell that they were rather strapped for budget/ideas on how to make them back then. Now if we wanted really super (not CGI/Cartoon) werewolves then we'd have to wait for the likes of the Jim Hendson company to get into a film with them!

The first appearance of werewolves in Buffy were fine, given the budget at the time. They did at least look like wolves. Then they were retconned into gorillas.

And there's just no excuse for the werewolves in Harry Potter, as there were no budgetary concerns there. They managed to make Buckbeak and Sirius' dog form look awesome in the same film, but chose to deviate from the canon description of werewolves to make... that.

I love both of them about equally, but I lean vampires?
Like, both of them are conceptually very good, and full of story telling possibilities, and growing up my favorite character in media was Remus Lupin, so I do have a soft spot for werewolves. But as I've gotten older, the aesthetic of undead, ageless, morally grey characters has really appealed to me. But I generally enjoy gothic aesthetics anyways, so its right up my alley to begin with XD

It depends on the situation. If this were asking me: if I could be a vampire or a werewolf, which would I be, I would be a vampire. I get to live for like, a long time and all I gotta do is suck a little blood? I'm okay with that. Although, I would miss going outside even though I'm real pale.

Overall tho, I think I'm a werewolf person. The idea of turning into a dog man is a cool idea in my head.
