Note: Gay is used as an umbrella term here for all non-hetero sexual orientations for the sake of this post :)
1.Shrimp is quoted as an abomination in the bible four times more than homosexuality- tell Barbra that at the next neighborhood barbecue she harasses you at!
2.In Russia, it's illegal to tell kids that gay people exist. Talk about a bummer.(haha, get it?)
3. In America, there's an estimated 9 million gay people. That's roughly the population of New Jersey.
4. Swans, orcas, and penguins can all be gay! Penguins will actually have a group of gay pairs to take care of eggs or chicks without parents.
5. Illinois was the first US state to decriminalize homosexuality by repealing sodomy laws in 1961. Go Illinois!
6. The rainbow flag actually has some neat symbolism in it! Red stands for life, orange for healing, yellow stands for the sun, green stands for nature, blue for harmony, and purple for the soul- now you know!
7. The Netherlands was the first nation to fully legalize gay marriage. Hooray!
I hope you guys enjoyed that, that was just a handful of facts I know that I decided to share for the fun of it. I hope I didn't offend anyone with this, and I hope you all enjoy your day/night/morning/afternoon/evening/timeless void!

All kinds of non-human animals have been found to have homosexual behaviour, in fact.
(When I told my homophobic former friend this, she said it all had to have been staged.)

Speaking of homosexuality in animals, I visited the Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma earlier this year. This was before the pandemic really had a foothold in America. They actually have a pair of gay penguins there. Both of the penguins had specific females that they were intended to be bred with. Lineages of animals in captivity are kept track of in order to keep their gene pool diverse enough. However these two penguins kept jumping through every hoop to be together, so the zoo finally allowed it. They gave them an orphaned egg to care for together. It was a heartwarming story.

Even lions have been documented preferring the attention of the same gender. Which makes it particularly entertaining when idiots try the whole "it's not natural!" argument because lions are pretty much always the main example these morons use.

Since this thread has veered more into animal territory than actual humans, here's some historical slang. Varying degrees of "fun", because it's inherently sad that people had to hide their identities in this way.
Confirmed bachelor was a term used in the 19th and 20th centuries to refer to a man uninterested in marriage - and later on in the 20th, specifically a gay man. The term, especially early on, likely left room for aromantic men, especially considering they can easily get grouped in with gay men due to people focusing on who they aren't attracted to more than who they are.
Friend of Dorothy was a similar term used in the united states originating from around WWII, though it was broad enough to encompass any lgbtq+ person. It likely has origins in the wizard of oz, and the Naval Investigative Service apparently took it completely literally and attempted to find "Dorothy". (Though, that isn't exactly a fun fact considering their goal was to lock up as many LGBTQ+ people as possible.)
also maybe the fact about russia shouldn't be framed as a "hahah funny foreigners" thing considering gay people are hunted down and killed there...
