I’m going on a long car trip soon and I was wondering if anyone has any good audiobook or podcast recommendations? I tend to gravitate towards mystery and crime but I’m open to other things too!

Magnus Archives is a really good podcast! If you haven't heard that one yet I highly recommend it.

On older one I've been listening too while cross-stitching of late has been the 7th Son series. It'a series of novels available as pod-cast listening and ready by the author.

Night Vale Presents has a few different podcasts, their first was Welcome to Nightvale, which is still putting out new episodes

seconding the magnus archives and welcome to night vale, i knew they were gonna get recommended right away but i need to say it again because they are the best!!! i have brainrot these podcasts are constantly on my mind!

the magnus archives is great if you like horror and spooky stories, but i do want to warn you that it can get really depressing and doesn't have a happy ending. brilliant writing though, brilliant lgbt representation (asexual included!), but keep in mind everyone will probably die.

welcome to night vale is also horror, but it's framed in a much more comedic way. i wouldn't say it's scary so much as it is just... really weird. but fantastic. also great lgbt representation :)

for audiobooks, i don't listen to many, but i love the six of crows audiobook. you can probably buy it at most places though someone did upload the whole series on youtube shh don't tell. it's a fantasy story about six desperate teenagers who go on this incredible heist, and the thing i love the most about the audiobook is that it's read by several different people - there's an actor for each character point of view. it's super fun to hear your favorite characters come alive in the audiobook, so i highly recommend it! there is also some pretty good representation in this book too, and don't worry, there's a ton of crime

i'm reading illuminae right now, and while the visuals are fantastic, i hear that it's also a brilliant audiobook with different voices and even sound effects. i'm planning on checking it out sometime, but if you like sci fi, i do recommend it.

If you can stomach decently intense horror, I Am In Eskew and The Silt Verses are some of the best podcasts I've ever listened to. I Am In Eskew is about a man trying to escape from a city that's alive and malicious, and a private investigator attempting to find it to rescue him. The Silt Verses is about two devotees to an ancient and eldritch faith attempting to find more people who worship the same god, while also attempting to outrun the police. They're made by the same creators (although The Silt Verses has more voice actors), so if you like one you'll probably like the other! The Silt Verses isn't currently complete, but what's out is very good.

The Bright Sessions has a mystery vibe to it later on. I haven't finished this one, but I really like it from what I've listened to. It's about a therapist, Dr. Bright, who sees patients with superpowers. As the story progresses, a larger picture begins to unravel involving Dr. Bright's past, her family, and many of her clients.

Also going to second The Magnus Archives, it's very good!

Non fiction, historical, spooky stories :) like, some haunted houses, a few bigfoot-type episode, old old murders (you said you tend to like crime stories), he'll do episode about specific cities and the creepy stuff that has happened in them. New Gods of Old Appalachia is another good horror podcast! Also if you remember Reading Rainbow and/or Geordi LeForge, Levar Burton has his own podcast on at least Spotify named... This isn't horror though, it's about general mortality and opinions about such. Something to think about. If you like it, there's also Ask a Mortician on youtube.
