TOPIC | i got my first job!
Took me long enough :') I never got a call back from anywhere when I was still in high school, but that was probably for the best. I'm excited to start saving money, but I'm celebrating by buying myself something I've had my eyes on for a while, lol. I'll be working in food, which I know has its horror stories, but I'm just glad to have income finally-- and to be able to work at a location so close to home.

What was your first job like? Any fun stories? If you're unemployed, what kind of job would you want as your first?

I have no positive work experiences lmao
I worked at a pizza place and let me tell you working in a hot kitchen with asthma is not a good idea. The air conditioning didn't work on my shifts so I eventually got fired because I had severe chest pain and couldn't stand up after a certain point and had to sit in the freezer. I believe I was there for 2 or 3 weeks. I have no idea where I'd like to work next because I have horrible anxiety as well.

I got my first job right out of high school. It was also in the food service industry, and it was also terrible. You'll be overworked and underpaid and constantly expected to do the job of three people with a smile, and still be berated for it.

However, it's not all bad! I swear.
Being able to earn income and start a credit line will be a lifesaver in the future. Things will always go wrong (broken car, dental issues, surprise vet bills, etc) so to have a back up/savings is essential.

Also, those first bad jobs? They'll give you experience to apply for bigger and better jobs. Ten years later, I'm working at a job I love (far removed from food service). I have a good income, savings, and I don't carry home emotional baggage and stress cry from a hard day anymore. It's interesting to look back and see where I used to be, and be proud and enjoy where I am now. (:

Eghh still in the process of getting another job (not doing my other one because of certain circumstances). My first job involved working with kids, which I'm actually really good at (maybe because I act like a kid myself and they relate, idk). I don't really have any particularly interesting stories, but it was a fun job regardless. :)

I made this signature just for the achievement.
congrats! my first job was in food service and honestly, it wasn't too bad! i did work for a very small restaurant/catering company tho. the people were very nice.

but truly? food service is one most intense jobs you can have, just in the fact you rarely have a minute to breathe. thats not always a bad thing - busy is good if youre getting tips and it makes time go by MUCH faster. my current job is the highest-paying one ive had and its (usually) the least intense, though it's labwork so it does require some brainpower somedays haha

it is nice to look back on where you started! there are some things i miss about my first job but i am also very glad i have the job i have!

Congratulations! Good luck!

My first job was being a cashier at an auction. That was pretty fun, usually. And it worked well because it was only the occasional weekend, so I never had work during a school night. The auctions are mostly online now, though, so that job's just about gone.

My first job was as a dishwasher in a tearoom that I call Hell's Tearoom, under a man I called Napoleon Ramsay. On my first day, he hacked up a deer carcass in a giant plastic tub, four inches of blood swishing everywhere, and tossed it at my 15yro self to wash out, so we were in at the deep end. He wouldn't walk to the dish room, he would yell PANS and lob them through the air while I hit the deck and hoped the pans landed in the sink instead of ricocheting into a waitress. He missed a delivery of fish once and grabbed a metal pan and started smashing it into the metal counter while bellowing incoherently in rage.

Having said that, it definitely built character! I genuinely believe you can look at any given person, have a two minute conversation and know intuitively "you had a thankless job in your youth" or "you have never been paid minimum wage to be shouted at in your life". There's a certain solidarity in food service. This job was years ago but to this day I still scrape off my plates and make sure nobody stacks a plate on top of a plate containing food when I go out to eat, because I remember the seething rage of having to pry the plates apart and encountering an unexpected quagmire of mayonnaise I had to rinse off before they made it to the sink.

Food service: it makes you or breaks you, and honestly after you've been there a week there's very little on the planet that can break you. Also, the coworkers are usually great because you have a whole group of people completely willing to act as the camera on The Office at everything ridiculous that goes on.
