Have you ever met your online friends IRL? Was it cool or awkward? Were they are you expected them to be or completely different? Any stories?

As for me:

This weekend my 3 friends that I met on dA are coming over. Two of them I've already seen twice, and the other one about 5-6 times. We've been talking for years, and meeting in real life 1-2 times a year. They are great, same irl as online.

Last weekend I met my other online friends group for the first time. I wasn't sure what to expect and the idea of meeting so many new people at once was a bit scary, but it was really fun and I loved it : D

I've also met my penpal from another country twice, it was a bit awkward as we talked with a mix of English and German (I don't speak German well but can understand quite a lot), but still nice.

Generaly I have a good experience with meeting my online friends irl, except for one friend (now ex-friend) who I talked with for several years and thought of her as of my older sister. Well, after we met irl she got jealous of a boy and completely cut me of : D but I guess it's better like this, so it's okay.

I haven't met any yet, but eventually I really want to be able to go to New Zealand to see @JAZHANDZ!!! She's my best online buddy :3c.

There is a slight possibility I could meet someone whom I met on here, but doesn't use the site anymore, and whom I still talk to via social media, at a convention. I've never actually done it.

I've not yet, but would love to one day! :)

Uniformly they've wound up being skeevy nice-girls who think I want a relationship and unironically "glomp" dudes without consent, or are absolutely pants on head weirdos with poor hygiene who steal things. I've met [i]one[/i] nice person of maybe twenty ?? since my first fan-related meetup in... '97, I think? I've decided to strictly stick with the regular local weirdos, at least I know their arrest records.

met a few! first time didn't go very well - someone i met through a discord server. we met at a concert and i guess i did something wrong bc they blocked me on every platform we followed each other on afterwards. they never told me but i guess we just didn't vibe.

second time i met the lovely lady who is now my girlfriend and that went great! i don't want to gush too much but ahdbdjrbdnfnx i love her. she visited me last year too, along with a mutual friend of ours who (very very thankfully) drove her here after she wrecked her car.

visited my ex last october. went on a plane for the very first time, by myself, to a big city and stayed at their house for a week and a half. it went well sort of! i got to meet their dog and play a lot of video games.

then, this year i downloaded a couple of dating apps specifically just to make irl friends and that's went... sort of well! i've met a few people from it but only one has stuck around and we're besties now and planning on becoming roommates/moving out together next month.

I have two instances - one was quite grand, the other was not.

The first one I met was a local cosplayer. I met her on an international cosplayer group for a game we both play (not so much anymore now, but we're still working on our cosplays for the game). I went to check the Asia meetup channel and decided to ask if anyone was from my country. She was the only one. We agreed to hold each other accountable for finishing our first cosplay and made plans to go to a convention. But we met much earlier than that, when she needed to go to a craft store to buy some cosplay stuff. I figured since it was near my school, my ex and I would go meet her for the first time. We hung out, got lunch, bought our stuff. It's been 2 years now and we're hanging out a lot. I'd say we're pretty close.

The second one was my best friend. In February 2020 before COVID hit hard, my dad and I went on a cruise to Koh Samui and Bangkok. My friend only lived 2 hours away from the dock and from the city, and figured since I'd be there all day, he could drive down to meet me.

He was 2 hours late and I had no way of contacting him since he had no mobile data outside of his home, and I had no cellular and could only use wifi. He eventually found me and my dad at the Burger King (because the fool had gone to McDonalds first - even after I was finally able to contact him and tell him we were at Burger King). He took me and my dad to the malls and I remember his hug was so powerful. I also almost kicked him because he tried to poke me as I was getting into the car to head back to the cruise center.

He's promised to come to Singapore once COVID passes, and I can't wait to meet him at the airport and assault hug him, and show him my country.

I met two people, one I will not discuss.

The second person I met is now my current boyfriend that I met over WoW. He was applying to our mythic raiding team and I told our RL that he had an annoying voice, was too cocky, and would leave in two weeks. Well, you can see how the above statement was very incorrect.
He came up to visit me twice and I went to him once, but after the first meeting, I knew we were vibing and mutually agreed to enter an LDR.
We've been dating around 4 years now, and living together just about all that, he's from Alabama and I'm from Ohio, but we're currently living in IL for his job.
