TOPIC | Strange game types you like?

Anyone have an odd or obscure genre or type of games they love playing? Even if you don’t get to play them that much. I love seeing everyone’s strange game tastes.

For me it would probably be games that hinge around difficult moral decisions. It’s very interesting to find out things about myself when put in a hard situation, and it can be done in a safe environment! Usually gives me a lot to think about later too, such as why I’m inclined to make a certain immediate decision and if that was the decision I’d have chosen if I’d had time to think. All around pretty cool!

Not sure if odd or obscure, but I'm the only person I know who plays otome/dating sim games. Kinda found them when I was at my lowest and loneliest.

Turns out... I get very invested in the story. And most of the characters. The layers to them. What drives them. Who they are. Their struggles. It helps me write my own romance when I want to, not that otomes are hyper realistic lol, but it's at least something for me to draw from.

I love realistic survival games that have no plot. it's just, you get put into a forest or whatever and you survive. It's hard to find good survival games like that and it's kinda sad. games like The forest is kinda cool with it's survival thing, but then you add in horror type things. While the forest is an amazing game, still not quite what I want. Rust and ark are kinda the same thing of sometimes it isn't realistic (tho again, love both). Kinda why I want to go into game developing. have a game you want but can't find? make it yourself

I really like Dwarf Fortress. I'm not really sure what genre it's under, though. Maybe simulation? But not really.

I've played a few dating sims. I bent my life and sleep schedule backwards to "play" Mystic Messenger. I also like Dramatical Murder because.... uh, well, uh.. the story! Yes, the story.

And if Mass Effect and Dragon Age dont count as dating sims, I dont know who youre fooling.

A common theme in a lot of games that I really like is that they have really sad stories. Like the Nier games.

i really enjoy online survival/sim games where you play as animals, specifically dinosaurs! i think they're pretty obscure in that there don't seem to be that many games in this genre that aren't either eternally unfinished, or not well-known enough to have a decently sized playerbase. the 3 most popular ones i can think of are all dinosaurs, and while i love and regularly play 2 of them, i really wish there were any games at all based around modern animals that are worth looking into :(

Not odd in itself, but there's a genre I like for completely the wrong reason. There is something incredibly relaxing about roguelites to me. Don't ask, I have no idea either.

Two of my favorite games are colorful shooters with weird shooter mechanics. The first one is Splatoon, which... I'm going to assume needs no explanation? The other is TRON 2.0, the little-appreciated TRON sequel that's... actually a FPS. You get to run around in a Y2K technicolor Tron world and hit people with your disc, or a gun because why not.
