TOPIC | Thread where we complain about bad yards
1 2 3 4 5 6
Since it's Spring and Summer is real close by (at least where I live)... it's that fun time of year where we get to dig up our gardens and get our hands full of mud! Woops, forgot to pull up the weed sprouts in the beginning of Spring? Now your yard is infested with noxious, annoying plants!

You get the point; it's all in the title. What freak accidents of yards have you seen or had in your lifetime?
For me, I've had a really bad year where goose grass got into my yard and killed off my grass :(
Another thing to add, I have a neighbor who doesn't spray their dandelions...

As a student in gardens and anything related to them:
STOP PLANTING BAMBOO
In France (idk for other countries), everyone is like "oh, I want bamboo in my backyard".
1st: They sell bamboo for a high price when bamboo is a type of grass (yes it's grass) that, while it flowers every 100-150years, it still multiplies very fast so, the price isn't justified (it is cause of high demand)
2nd: People want bamboo without putting anti-rhizome barrier, meaning the bamboo grows everywhere and people just complain and cry afterwards
3rd: Bamboo is hell sharp! leaves can cut you, and, if you cut it in half vertically, it can slice your hand open (happened to me), meaning you gotta be very careful when taking are of it
4rth: Bamboo is horrible in terms of compost or mulching, meaning you can't use it fo much (only to basically make little supports for other plants)
I get bamboo is pretty (just look at Black bamboo also called Phyllostachys nigra) but please, stop ;-; plus it's an invasive species

Also, just mentioning something that happened while working one day:
We had to prune several bushes and hedges, and the owner also wanted us to prune in a sphere an olivier which doesnt have nor the branches, nor the leaves and especially doesn't really like being pruned. Welp, can't wait to see it die in a year or so, after having cost arround 500€ :)

My brother just got some ducks, so his yard is absolutely nothing but mud.

The yard at my house is... a little worrisome. +60 or maybe even 70+ years ago, the land my house was built on used to be a small cattle farm that was abandoned, and then it became someone's personal dumping site. Because of this, anytime it rains or there's a little bit of excavating going on, stuff starts to resurface. It's mostly broken glass or ceramic, rusted metal, and occasionally some animal bones, and rarely some thrown out personal belongings like old shoes or shirts. Keeps things interesting though.

i'm not much into the "yard" fandom, dont anything about weeds. (i love dandelions but understand why they're a menance"

but you know what i hate

people that don't pick up their yards, or clean up after dogs. i live in apartments so we all share the yard, and my neighbors upstairs like to leave stuff out there that you can imagine, like trash and toys and other stuff. we pick up our trash and stuff so why cant they? its to the point where its just them, and yet we and a few other neighbors get blamed too.

our land lord wants us to take our dog across the street to play in the field there. .....which is full of goat heads and fox tails. which can really harm paws. ugh.

Assumed this was a thread angry about yards in general.

I'M ANGRY ABOUT YARDS IN GENERAL. I'm happy clover lawns are getting more popular at least, but IMO pure native (for minimal maintenance) or some kind of zone-appropriate food garden are the way to go. Definitely not everyone has time for the latter, but the amount of effort and resources I watch people pour into keeping lawns alive.....

I live near a middle school bus stop, so all of the kids leave their items in the yard, which is annoying. Well, save that time that someone left a hoodie in there for 3 weeks so I washed it and it became mine.

I was raised to hate lawns by my mother, who would replace entire front yards with garden beds. I think if you’re putting a lot of work into a patch of grass, you’d be better served growing vegetables or flowers so you at least get something back.

As for personal yard experience… where I live now we have a shaded front yard, sunny back yard. We’ve turned over the dirt out front and I planted some flowers, so more plants have been started in pots but I’m not sure what will happen with those. Out back it’s a jungle. Raspberry canes, random flowers, grass, bushes. In my part of the world it’s peak gardening time.
