For some strange, unknowable reason, I have been craving an onion. A whole onion. Raw. It has been like this for days. Days. When asked about food, I would answer every time with onions. Every. Single. Time. It became something of a joke, said in jest, mixed with fear.
Tonight, while busy, I was tapped on the shoulder. A whole red, raw onion. Held out fearfully, like an offering to a bloodthirsty god who demanded sacrifice as if the need burned in the ichor. I did not hesitate.
The deed was done.
What did it taste like?
Like an uncooked red onion. My eyes, nose, and throat burned with every bite, but I did not stopped. More, more. Until the red onion vanished before my eyes. Until the yearning in heart slowed, then stopped. I reached for a bite, to find none. The onion was gone. Worth it.
Anyways, I need sleep. How was everyone else's meals like?

It was a Passover celebration at a family friends house. This family friend was devoutly Jewish, and as such went through the entire Passover ceremony before we ate- a total of 1 hour.
The only thing we were allowed to eat was the onion that represented the bitter herb. In the centerpiece, there was a whole onion. We were supposed to eat little bits of it at a time, but I was just so hungry.
So I bit it like an apple. And kept biting it, until it was no more.
the host was dumbfounded. She got another onion and put it away from me.
It tastes awful
