Hello! So, for a while now I've been sitting on this concept for a browser game and I'm pretty curious if it's something people would actually play!
It's kinda inspired by retro FR nuzlockes -- the idea's been brewing for years, since those were cool and popular. Another thing I take inspiration from is the old horse browser game Indomita. I especially love the personality system in that!
In the game, you play as a "dragon", the leader of a clan / tribe / whatever I decide to call a group of "dragons". They're not really dragons, more like.. elemental aliens, but they all have six limbs and wings so dragon is close enough a label, ahah.
It's not a pet or breeding sim concept, though. The breeding system would be comparatively simple compared to FR and similar games -- no genes or special markings or anything like that. Dragons are static images that can come in various skins, and maybe colour would be dependent on their parents, but breeding certain colours is not intended to be a goal in this hypothetical game.
They would be able to be dressed and customised, however!
Really it'd be quite like a survival game with heavy lore elements. Your tribe of dragons are influenced by your leadership but they're not completely under your control. You can encourage them to behave in certain ways, but the only dragon you can 100% dictate the actions of is the dragon you play as.
I've got ideas for hunting, combat and territory systems. All need to be more fleshed out, though!
Dragons can die but not of old age or random events. Rather, they can die in conflicts and battles that you can decide whether to engage in. You've gotta measure the risk versus the reward. But the idea is that you wouldn't have dragons dying all the time; just enough risk to make your actions mean something.
But also, your decisions as a leader influence what your tribe thinks of you. If you constantly start fights, they might resist. If you rule with an iron fist, they might rebel. I really like the idea of this game where you feel like the other dragons are actually individuals with their own needs and opinions, y'know? I don't know how difficult this would be to program but I think it'd be pretty cool if I could pull it off!
But I don't know if this sort of game would actually appeal to the sorts of people who play browser games like FR. I wouldn't want to put a ton of effort into making a game that nobody wants to play!
Let me know what you think of the concept. :0
Also here's some WIP art and concept sketches of the first dragon species I'm designing for the game! The design is definitely not final but it's fun to play with.
