I was thinking of changing my username, but that got me wondering if selling it was allowed. Since it's an actual space-related word, I figured maybe there would be interest in it, but I don't want to break any rules.

I think it used to say that you cannot sell anything from this site for money. But now it only says not 'items' and no 'accounts'. IF they group Dragons under items and names under accounts is completely open to interpretation so you should probably better send a contact us. Actually It would be good it you mention the rather lacking descriprion of what is and isn't allowed so they might change it to be more clear.

@Nebulae If you want to know what would be allowed, you'd have to ask the staff via Contact Us. They'll be able to give you a more solid answer on what is allowed and what is not. I've never seen this come up before, but I'd guess it's the kind of thing admins didn't account for when establishing sales rules.

However, rules aside, it sounds like a bad idea. How would you even go about selling it with any sort of reliability? If they've changed their UN before, I don't think anyone's going to shell out extra Gems just to snag a username you're already planning on freeing up. Plus, if you're making it public, there's nothing stopping a troll from sniping the name after you've changed it, but before the buyer gets a chance. There's a lot of room for things to go wrong, and I doubt the admins would be able to do anything in that event.

I probably won't even bother selling it anyways, it was just something I was curious about.

Im necroing this because I am curious about this too. I just changed my username but I am not happy with it... BUT i have an user made accent which fits the name so am I allowed to sell this username + the accent as a " potential lore" packet?

I would not sell for real money only Fr currency as gems and treasures.

You're better off sending in a ticket, as someone suggested when this thread was first posted, especially because this is a niche question/circumstance. You're not going to get a blanket answer that fits all situations. Pinging staff in the forums to demand a response rather than using the provided channels is kind of rude, imo ^^"
