TOPIC | Copyright question
This is a bit of an odd question, but I'm not sure where else to ask:
I want to get a custom pet based off of one of my dragons here on FR on another pet site, but I'm worried that doing that might violate FR's copyright in some way. I combed the Help Center and didn't really find the answer to what my question since the art commission section has to do with people selling art here on FR and doesn't mention off-site commissions.
Does anyone here know more about FR's copyright guidelines?

The ToU and Rules & Policies linked at the bottom of every page are more likely to be of use to you than the help forum, cause all we can really say for sure is that if it isn't explicitly in there only the staff can tell you! To be completely sure you'd need to send in a Contact Us message.

Personally speaking, I'd say it's going to depend on how 'based on' it is. If it's a custom colour scheme of an existing pet lineart, or a completely different animal that has some similar traits, you'll probably be fine. If it's anything that could be interpreted as fanart - ie, it's the same kind of dragon in a different art style, then you'd need to at the very least display the FR link/logo/whatever it specifies. At that point even if FR would be okay with it, the site you're on might well not be.

Like Vendrus said above, the only way you can be 100% sure whether or not it's okay is to contact the site, but I'd say that as long as your custom pet doesn't use FR art or terms, you're probably in the clear. A few examples:

-Let's say the website already has a "feathery velociraptor" pet. Okay: getting one custom colored to match the Wildclaw in your avatar, or getting one that has steampunk-y goggles on it. Not okay: Uploading the FR Wildclaw art as a custom pet, photoshopping the actual Gold Steampunk Goggles art onto the site's pet art.

-Let's say you want to have a tribute to Ice Flight (as one should lol). Okay: generally ice-themed dragons, a custom skin named "flying ice" (or quite possibly even something like "icy flight" since that's very generic), using the same color as the FR Ice primary/secondary/tertiary. Not okay: putting the Ice Flight emblem on it anywhere.

As long as you aren't using FR terminology or art assets, you should be fine. If you want a more specific answer, you need to tell us more information.
