So when i go to change the breed of my dragons with compatible Gaoler genes (they are the two dragons in my Gaoler tab that are not Gaoler) So i am a little stuck on what to do. Because i want these two to be Gaoler but i do not want them to revert into basic.

@isabella304
The text is a bit unclear, any modern breed changed to a gaoler will then have basic genes. Basic is the only "compatible" gene.

The only truly compatible gene with Gaoler is basic - Bar (Gaoler) and Bar are two different genes, and therefore, if you have a dragon with Bar, it's not going to turn into Bar (Gaoler)
Sadly, you have to pick - either you get a Gaoler and accept the fact they're gonna turn into Basic, or just stay with the dragons you have right now.
We've been told off the bat that Gaolers would lose all their genes when breed changed, it's not a surprise.
Also, Gaolers equivalent of modern genes cost half as much.
