yeah that's normal, it's all determined by RNG. you can change elements or where you gather to try and improve your odds.

They'll be in the 'other' section of your hoard, but not at the very end of it. e.g. for me they're on page 3, but it depends on how much you have in your hoard.

Items are listed in your Hoard/Vault by ID number and not the order in which you got them. Strange chests should in the Other section be after the Discarded Ribbon and Good Eater Award (or the various beastclan scraps) and before the Bottled Embers and Jar of Vapors from the coliseum.
As a side note check out this guide for statting your dragons. Getting chests in the coliseum is all about battles per minute and that guide should help you both level up your dragons and battle faster.
