Considering the price in the auction house is still twice the mp price, the majority of them are probably still getting sniped pretty quick

it's not just that. Its one thing that im not fast enough to snipe, and its another where I dont even see it. Like, they cant snipe that fast to the point where i never even catch a glimpse of it.... right?

Keep in mind that it's completely random whether or not the Marketplace restocks at all, let alone with the specific item you want. According to the database, there are currently 134 Specialty items that can appear in the Treasure Marketplace - and if there are a few I'm missing, that only further proves the point. If you focus on one small chance out of a thousand, its absence will seem a lot more conspicuous.
Banescales were announced barely a month ago, so they're still riding the high of being the Cool New Thing™ that everybody wants. Dedicated snipers will spend hours stalking the Marketplace in order to sell popular items for inflated prices, and it works. In the long term, supply and demand tend to balance things out, but right now, a sniper can make a lot of money by selling Banescale scrolls to impatient buyers.
In the meantime, it's not easy to beat snipers if you aren't playing like one. My strategy is to keep 1 Marketplace tab open while I'm doing other things, and hit F5 every 5 minutes to refresh and see if there's new stock. The Marketplace will clear out completely every 2 hours (at the same time Swipp changes his offers), but it'll still have a chance to stock a few items immediately.
Patience is key and RNG makes fools of us all, so don't be discouraged if it takes a few more days to acquire the gene you want. Good luck!

@NightmareJudge i do exactly that. I keep a tab open and switch to it 10 seconds before the 5min mark (cause my laptop time is slightly earlier than FR time by 1-2 seconds). I dont even look at the words, i just keep an eye out for the unique colouring of the gene
