TOPIC | Collecting sprites
I'll try to make this as concise as possible but I don't think it's gonna work lol. I want to complete my bestiary minus the big boy KS fams.

When going after sprites, is it generally best to go for the most expensive first? Of course that would be the light sprite, but my current predicament is it's the one I want the least- appearance-wise anyways. I would rather go for the cheaper ones first but idk if that's a bad idea???

Do the prices often fluctuate or raise by quite a bit? The last thing I want to happen is to have the light sprite get even more expensive while I'm busy working on the others. Then again, I also don't want that happening to the less expensive ones if i go for the light sprite first. Of course, I'm not gonna be able to avoid that completely, but I'd like to as much as possible.

If anyone has already done this quest, or are currently working on it, I'd love to hear some of the routes you've gone and what's worked and what hasn't.

I'd also love some money saving tips. Should I focus on getting g only (through AH, art shop etc) or should I also focus on getting t and convert it to g later through a gem exchange in item sales? Or does it not matter/come down to preference?

HAH- you can probably tell this is new to me
Any help is appreciated!

Honestly pretty much all of that comes down to personal preference, though I generally recommend getting the cheaper ones first if only for the fact that getting them makes you feel like you accomplished something and it's better for motivation. They usually don't fluctuate very much, though most of them have gone up in price recently. It's not a constant rise, though. More something that happens all at once with no warning.

I would also recommend getting treasure and converting it to gems simply because you'll be making more money towards your goal that way than if you limited yourself to gems only.

Got it, that makes sense. Just curious, do you have an estimate on how often that sudden price rise happens and how quickly it goes back to (somewhat) normal, or is it just too unpredictable to say?

Starting from the cheaper sprites was what I did, and I felt like that was the less stressful way as I could see my collection growing bigger fairly steadily. I also didn't put to much stress on saving specifically for most of them.

However there was one caveat.

The Light sprite was 42kg when I started collecting all the sprites, 46kg when i acquired it and Within the next two weeks just after, it jumped up to 55kg. within 2 months after it went to a short period around 90kg before dropping back down to the 78kg it is in the AH now.

I personally don't think the light sprite prices will change too much from what they are now, but that is something to keep in mind when you decide.

Tips on saving money: Do what you're already good at. If you already get quite a bit of gems through the AH and art shops, Focus on those and try to get to a wider customer base. If not, Focus on treasure and keep an eye out on the bulk currency exchange regulars, as well as be ready to grab any good deals that pop up. whichever route you go, having the other option on the side won't hurt for supplementary income.

It's really too unpredictable to tell you any kind of estimate or prediction. Sometimes they don't go back to "normal" at all and become the new normal. I've seen sprites stay stable for 4+ years and then suddenly the price changes, but others have changed in much shorter time spans. Some went back to normal, some didn't.

I've done it a few times and this has worked best for me:

1. Diversify your income.

2. Keep track of Sprite prices regularly.

3. Keep track of the g:t ratio.

The first is because unless you're an artist the relative Time + Effort to currency ratio will change depending on what you're doing. I'm regularly melting down in Baldwin, selling coli drops, training exalts and training dragons to L25, aging up cheap exalts, Fairgrounds, reselling MP items, etc. Depending on demand and prices of supplies I do more or less of each of these things based on which will earn the most per amount of time.

The second is so that you know if someone is over/under pricing a sprite and to catch trends. I suggest checking every Sprite at least once a week and ideally about twice a week. If you spot a bargain buy!

The third is so you know if you should be selling for gems or treasure and if so which currency earns you the most for your stuff. Check out Arbitrage.

Finally, save up with the current Light Sprite price in mind. You're likely not going to get it first but if your goal is to get all of them then you'll want to be able to snatch up a bargain for any of the Sprites if someone is quick-selling. I do suggest saving more gems than treasure since more sellers want gems but keep the g:t ratio in mind so you buy when gems are cheaper if at all possible.

When or why prices suddenly rise is impossible to predict as far as I know. Price drops on the other hand often occur when new breeds come out, gem genes come out, NotN (influx of G1s needing genes) or when KS familiars come on the market and the seller wants gems and not items. A "return to normal" is not guaranteed afterward, either.

Light Sprite prices are weird. They were incredibly stable for a while and based on other Sprite prices I'd say that big jump is a correction to a closer to accurate market price. 2014 when I joined I saw them around 30kg and thought they were unobtainable. By mid-2016 they hit 47kg before dropping a bit and then did the big rise last year from nearly 50kg to 80kg and now are down to 78k.

Actual sale prices varied but I've seen a sale at 65kg and players saving up and not finding sellers at 70kg (mixed t/g). Compared to other Sprites most have doubled in price since 2016 while the Light Sprite has not.

The only other outlier price (with relative attractiveness taken into account) is for Lightning which has a bigger supply relative to age because the first Lightning Festival got extended due to site downtime. Prices have always been lower than expected for this one because of the increased supply.

Hope this helps!

I want to live in Theory. Everything works there.

Have you checked the Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in 5g?
