I want to put text in the center of them, like so:

The "i"s would be transparent in the finished version, but to keep things simple and easy to read I didn't include that here. Also I'm aware that there's some pixely stuff happening in the background, I'll fix that later.
My question is, is there any way to get rid of that bar between the second and third layer? I've tried changing the size of the text in the center, but it only makes the gap smaller, but not disappear. When there's no text, the gap is gone, but the text is necessary for the purpose I need these images for.
I'll make do if it's not possible, but I wanted to see if anyone else had an idea first.
