my go-to thread for breeding tips and tricks is here (< click the word). this thread has all the information you need on breed and gene rarity! as for colors, here's the wikia page that explains how those work!

the most overlooked necessity for breeding is having lair space for all the babies, so you'll want to save treasure as much as you can. Glimmer&Gloom is a great way to get loads of treasure every day, and this guide (thread links to an excel sheet with an useful tool) guarantees that you'll get the treasure.
