"And so, now you are here."
"Yes."
"You were told you could not have the power of a god, so you summoned me to tell you differently..."
"Answer me."

The Spiral laughed.
Danu's crests stiffened in anger. She fluttered up as imposingly as she could, staying just outside the glowing barrier containing the Spiral.
"Answer me!"
"And if I answer you in a way you don't like?"
"Then I'll tear you apart and find a ritual that'll give me what I want to know."
The Spiral cocked its head, its lithe body coiling and uncoiling in the air as it examined Danu. She tried to look strong and dangerous. That was hard when the eyes examining you were as big as your own head.
"Alright." The Spiral's lips curled away from its sharp teeth. "You cannot become a god, but you can have the same power over a sphere as a god would. You will need to consume power - great and terrible power - from the sphere you choose, with no remorse, no hesitation. And only then can you warp yourself into what you seek."
Danu already knew what she wanted her sphere to be. She'd known from the moment of this idea's inception - from the moment she saw her own mother meting out punishment and reward.
"I want to be the mother of all dragons," she said, lifting her crests high. "I want them all to submit to me, like good children should."
The Spiral's smile widened. Was it laughing at her?
"Then it will be children you'll need to seek," it said. "Many of them."
"So be it," said Danu.

Welcome to my tracking thread for The Price of Power, a personal lore-focused 100 Hatchling Challenge.

Meet Danu. She's my matriarch, the power-hungry Fae who only wishes to become a god for her own twisted reasons. The dragon who gave her that advice may regret it later....
-----
The rules are simple, and created by someone other than myself - though I'll be tweaking them quite a bit to make this more fun for myself, and to fit Danu's lore.
1. This challenge begins with the selection of your matriarch. To pick one, she must fulfill two requirements. The first, obviously, is that she has to be biologically female. The second is that she must have never been bred before now. That's it; anything else goes! She can be from your clan already, from the Auction House, have any breed / color / gene combination, be immediately RTB or not -- the sky is the limit. The one thing I recommend without a doubt is that she'd be a dragon you'd permanently keep, because you're going to have her in your hands for quite some time.
If you find that you're tiring of your matriarch's look, feel free to scatterscroll her, breed change her, or alter her genes as much as you'd like. The only thing you cannot do is replace her with any other dragoness after the challenge begins.
2. Select the first mate for your matriarch. Literally the only requirement for him is that he's biologically male and thus can produce offspring with her.
Note how this step says "first" mate. This is because your matriarch cannot breed with the same dragon twice across the duration of this challenge.
3. Breed them once they're both RTB and you have sufficient space! Make a note of how many children they've had and keep it. Maintaining count is key. I'd also recommend making a note of who the mate was, so that you never accidentally "double-dip."
[s]4. When the hatchlings are born, you cannot just immediately exalt them or sell them over the Auction House. On the contrary, you must ensure every hatchling gets a long-term home. This could be anything from becoming someone else's permanent dragon to being bred at least once in someone else's lair. Either way, they need to be kept by someone for a while before being exalted or exalt-trained, if ever. If you want, you may keep any hatchlings you get as long-term residents of your own clan.
If you end up selling someone a hatchling and they change their mind and either resell or exalt it, then you are not held accountable for it; after all, the matter at that point would have been out of your hands. However, it might be wise to not sell that person another hatchling for the duration of the challenge.
5. Repeat the process from finding a new mate to sending the hatchlings off to find long-term homes until all 100+ hatchlings have found a place they belong![/s]
I'm entirely cutting out everything from Rule 4 onwards. Unless someone expresses interest in one of Danu's hatchlings, every single one of them will be exalted - to symbolize her ritually murdering them to absorb their power.
Does this make the challenge easier? Heck yeah it does. But I prefer my challenges lore-based and fun, not grindy and depressing.

More lore will come. I have quite a few ideas for Danu's story, and I'm excited to create updates as she claws her way toward her twisted goal.

(And Princess, I should mention it was actually your challenge that spurred me to do one of my own - seeing that these could be interesting lore-fests instead of dead boring sales pitches!)
