[size=2][i]The original Long drop Challenge was posted [b][url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/1971573]HERE [/url][/b] This thread will be written from the POV of one of my coli dragons. As such a 'Journal' entry will be included with each post. You are free to comment on this thread! [/i][/size] [quote=Entry 1] [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=26771638] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/267717/26771638_350.png[/img] [/url] [i]I never considered, before now, to keep records of my experiences under Scourge’s command. Prior to my enslavement I kept a journal of happenings, one which documented my actions and the events that took place during my time as a captain of the Gladekeeper’s troops. However, I felt it was pointless to further auto-biograph my life, when surely only tragedy awaits me. I have decided now to further chronicle my life. Think of this not as an autobiography of my life, but a memoir for those who will not make it back alive. I had spent several months fighting the beast clans in the Ghostlight Ruins alongside two companions - a spiral and a nocturne . We received word from courier dragons that we had been instructed to return home to Rotrock Rim. I was the only one to do so, my two brothers in arms having died before we had completed the journey. The spiral passed of illness, a strain which had taken him suddenly and ultimately ended his life. The nocturne was killed in an ambush in the waterways. Upon reaching my destination I was given food and a chance to bathe, a luxury not often had even upon returning from battle. I finished my meal and was escorted to the barracks of the den. There I beheld a pitiful site. Though it was clear that the new slaves had been bathed they still seemed dirty. Sickly, perhaps. No sooner had I felt a pang of understanding than Scourge appointed me as their leader and demanded I direct them in the ways of the battlefield. As their captain I have spent several weeks with them in the training fields. While others show some understanding of combat there are still some who - very clearly - have never been put in a position where they must fight. These are the ones I fear for the most. Beyond their abilities I must inform you that they are not well fed, their bones show from beneath their scales, and they are prone to sickness and bouts of weakness. We can request no food or help from our master, they must learn this, this unspoken rule that if they wish to eat they must hunt for their own food - and that any food they may hunt down they will only receive scraps from. The ear of a cloven animal, a bit of haunch if they are lucky. Among the cadets there is one who stands out for his unique fighting style. Akaro, a young skydancer. He is peculiar. Holds himself as a mage but strikes like a bruiser. I have not seen him take a hit yet. Of this I am most impressed. A little more time and he could prove to be a strong force on the field. Just a few more weeks of training now, and those who have not died of ailments will join me in the ever raging war with the beast clans. May the Glademother grant them her protection. ~Lothlorien[/i] [/quote] [quote=Training Fields] [b]First Item[/b] [item=false leaf] 99/99 [b]Notable Drops[/b] [item=chipskink]x2 [item=frosted pocketmouse][item=ember mouse][item=frigid bolt] [item=bluelight chipskink]x2 [item=green lace wristlet]x2 [item=reflect][item=yellow-throated sparrowmouse][item=glowing pocket mouse][item=silky webwing][item=freezing slash] [item=leafy moth]x2 [item=amaranth moth][item=ruby webwing][item=mith bruiser][item=luna mith][item=brown-spotted mith] [/quote] [quote=Entry 2] [i]In the company of Scourge’s new fodder I am forced to remember in vivid detail my own enslavement and how difficult it was - and still is - for me to adjust to the inevitable. I remember the stench of filth that clung to our scales as my brothers, my sisters, and I were auctioned off. I remember the hunger pangs, the weeks without food. And I remember the first time I set eyes upon the rotten smiled of my would be master. I know fully what fear these young prisoners must feel. I was bought from the auction block alongside four other drakes. Two were sacrificed upon arrival to the den, an offering to the Plaguebringer so that Scourge may win her favor. The third completed the journey with me, back to the Macabre den. Wellwick was a scholar, more skilled with a pen than any kind of sword. The training was harsh for him, and the infectious surroundings took toll quickly. Though both of us fell ill my body was far more durrant, having been on the field since I was young. But Wellwick was frail. He died within weeks of his arrival. I am reminded of Wellwick when I look at these young captives. I see their bodies become sore from training, their hearts grow weak with fear. Most have become ill due to their extended stay in the Wasteland. Those whose bodies are healthiest will gain immunity. Those who do not will die. We have lost five already; two young fae, a spiral, a tundra, and a coatl. I expect to lose more before our training concludes within the week. Scourge has given me instructions to proceed to the battlefields. We will have to make the journey through Woodland Path to reach our destination, I will send the scouts ahead of us along with a runner who may return to warn us of any enemy camps along the trail. If we are lucky the trail will be clear and we can avoid such conflicts before reaching our destination. ~Lothlorien[/i] [/quote]

After crossing three fourths the trail we were greeted by our runner who warned of an upcoming dryad camp, and informed me that our scouts - all trained archers - had engaged in battle to pick off the dryad clan and take back the area as dragon territory. It was after learning this information that Akaro - the same I have mentioned previously in this memoir - suggested we diverge from the path and use the trees as cover. Straying from the path is something often warned against, especially in times of war. I considered however, that my soldiers were not quite up to full potential. A skirmish -even as small as this one - may prove worse for their health in the near future. Hesitant at first, I soon agreed that Akaro’s plan was the most likely to keep us from encountering an organized unit of beastclan members. I instructed the runner - Henrick - to return to the scouts and see if there were survivors, and if their were he was to tell them that they should push ahead to the post, which was only a days walk on path from our current destination. After Henrick set out I and the rest of my troops diverged from the main path and entered to wood to avoid any more traps set for dragons along the road. We were forced to set up camp for another night, this time off road. The journey to the post took not a day, but two due to the detour. We arrived at the trading post, a large clearing of dirt and short grass, and the last stop before entering enemy territory. Here we are reunited with my scouts, all of which I am pleased to inform you, made it out with mere scratches. Akaro takes care of their wounds while I write this by firelight. Those of us unscathed have set up barracks near the post, these we will return to after our battle in the scorched forest, and it is here we will lick our wounds. Glademother willing we will all return alive and remain so. ~Lothlorien[/i] [/quote] [quote=Woodland Path] [b]First Item[/b] [item=grouse] 99/99 [b]Notable Drops[/b] [item=wildwood owl][item=envenom][item=blushing pink rose][item=bamboo phytocat][item=dryad][item=basilisk][item=pestilent slash][item=leaf bolt][item=coral basilisk][item=grouse basilisk][item=jungle slash][item=nebula starsilk eaRrings][item=greenroot janustrap][item=contaminate][item=date plumed anklets][item=sakura owl][item=cockatrice][item=crimson rogue trousers][item=bluefin charger][item=bolster][item=blooming strangler][item=pretty pink neck bow][item=zephyr bolt][item=rally][item=autumn dryad][item=Regeneration][item=secondary gene: morph] [/quote]

[quote=Entry 4] [i]Battles with the beast clans always seem far longer than the reality. What was a sixteen hour battle seems like days to my troops and myself. This was - for most of them - their first real taste of battle. Though I had hoped we would all make it back to camp casualties were inevitable. Mages were among the majority of our casualties, and two fighters have fallen. Scourge makes a point to strip his slaves of their names, calling a majority of them ‘sacrifice’. He has instructed me to remove myself as far as possible from developing any sense of compassion. As such I am supposed to call them by an assigned number. Alas, I cannot. These men and women had names, and they deserve to be remembered. Of the mages who were lost ; Arrouna Starsky Yrron Ashfall Korvul Seafair Ignisia Lockwind Astral Comettail Erund Rockbound And of the soldiers ; Carzius Cinderback Felkar Stormeye After the battle I - and the remaining soldiers - retrieved what articles of their clothing we could, as well as articles of drakemade garments that the beastclans had taken from previous battles. While searching for these articles one of the soldiers came across a fire egg. It is impossible to say if it were stolen, or abandoned when the beast clans took claim or the land, but whatever the case we traded it to a drake at the trading post in exchange for money. I concluded this the best course of action, for I fear what the hatchling’s fate would be in the hands of Scourge. Upon returning to our camp we buried the clothing of our fallen soldiers and sang a song of parting. Despite the losses I encourage the survivor’s to celebrate. This was - despite the casualties - a win against the beast clans. The men now gorge themselves on stolen centaur rations and potash fruit while we await our next orders, and the coordinates of our next destination. ~ Lothlorien[/i] [/quote] [quote=Scorched Forest] [b]First Item[/b] [item=zebra cricket] 100/99 [b]Notable Drops[/b] [item=rambra][item=centaur archer][item=augite protector][item=brown wizard hat][item=fossilize][item=zeeba][item=dented iron gauntlets][item=bloodscale tail guard][item=crowned bonepriest][item=tigerlily lei][item=steam gyre][item=nebula starsilk circlet][item=moss-covered golem][item=tigerlily flower crown][item=unhatched fire egg][item=shroud][item=teardrop citrine pendant][item=extinguished jackalope][item=wave slash][item=vista: training fields ii][item=tigerlily corsage] [/quote]
