Background wrote:
Pascale traveled for some time with a group of cultists called The Eleven, a cult that worshiped Sornieth's deities with a deadly obsessiveness. The sole survivor of their final rite, the skydancer found his way to the ruins of the Hewn City, where he took up residence in a library housed in a great spire and founded a school for young dragons.
The school, situated as it was in the Library of Forbidden Knowledge, taught a great many young dragons a great many powerful magical secrets. And if some students were never heard from again...well. Magic is dangerous.
But things changed when, reading the portents of an ominous future event, Pascale set about on a path to alter fate. Through a convoluted plan of selective breeding and sacrifice, he sought to raise the magical strength of a single inauspicious bloodline. The fruits of his labor were promising: A pair of dragons, Ozzy and Fugue, were born bearing the strength from generations of struggle.
Unfortunately, the concentration of magic had unintended consequences, and rifts began to open in the fabric of reality. Monsters spilled forth, invading the region. And though Ozzy and Fugue tried to raise an army to defeat them, their efforts ultimately failed, and the city was overrun.
The area of the library has been cordoned off, a hidden corner among the ruins. But Pascale was not dispirited by the change. Quite the opposite...he seemed excited.
Unbeknownst to all but his closest advisors, Pascale's true purpose had come to light. Gathering Fugue and Ozzy, the headmaster completed a final ritual. Their bodies, magically infused as they were, dissolved. In their place, two eggs.
But not the eggs of a normal dragon. Eggs of elder gods -- one darkness, one light, the race of deities who spun the world into being, long thought gone from this world.
And now, with two members of this forgotten and ancient race born beneath his tutelage, Pascale has access to unfathomable power. But in return, he must help them spread their influence and thrive...
