The school, situated as it was in the Library of Forbidden Knowledge, taught a great many young dragons a great many powerful magical secrets. And if some students were never heard from again...well. Magic is dangerous.

But things changed when, reading the portents of an ominous future event, Pascale set about on a path to alter fate. Through a convoluted plan of selective breeding and sacrifice, he sought to raise the magical strength of a single inauspicious bloodline. The fruits of his labor were promising: A pair of dragons, Ozzy and Fugue, were born bearing the strength from generations of struggle.

Unfortunately, the concentration of magic had unintended consequences, and rifts began to open in the fabric of reality. Monsters spilled forth, invading the region. And though Ozzy and Fugue tried to raise an army to defeat them, their efforts ultimately failed, and the city was overrun.

The area of the library has been cordoned off, a hidden corner among the ruins. But Pascale was not dispirited by the change. Quite the opposite...he seemed excited.

Unbeknownst to all but his closest advisors, Pascale's true purpose had come to light. Gathering Fugue and Ozzy, the headmaster completed a final ritual. Their bodies, magically infused as they were, dissolved. In their place, two eggs.

But not the eggs of a normal dragon. Eggs of elder gods -- one darkness, one light, the race of deities who spun the world into being, long thought gone from this world.

And now, with two members of this forgotten and ancient race born beneath his tutelage, Pascale has access to unfathomable power. But in return, he must help them spread their influence and thrive...

Welcome!

First, there was the Legacy of Lore.

Then, building upon it, the Children of Lore.

Now, please enjoy Chapter 3 of my convoluted lore-breeding-keep-myself-entertained Flightrising challenge!

Also, feel free to follow along my lore-adjacent Bestiary challenge :)

This will be determined by my Pinkerton drop of the day. A familiar or apparel item means it's time to go acquire a new dragon! The appearance of that dragon is governed by which "court" we're in at the time (aka, which element nest was most recently used). So when I'm in "Shadow" court, I'm looking for shadowy/dark/monster-theme dragons. When I'm in "Light" court, I'm looking for bright gold/white/angelic-theme dragons. The challenge continues until I get bored and vanish off the site again, OR I have a whole stack of triple-gened banescale dragons and handsome followers, whichever happens first! Some rules:

All mates have to be banescales (obviously)
All heirs must be kept as perma-dragons
Mates can be exalted or sold or kept as permas
When a dragon's grandchild hatches with an upgrade, the dragon can get any sort of gene (it doesn't have to match the hatchling or anything)
Each nest, I'll roll a die to see which element they'll be nested in and what "court" is reigning. Even = light. Odd = shadow. (THANK YOU to @freelanceangel for the idea and offering to host!)
Every time I draw an apparel item OR familiar from Pinkerton, I can buy a dragon matching the aesthetic of the reigning court.
Outside of buying mates and acolytes, NO new perma dragons can be obtained during the challenge! ONLY fodder to train or flip. (Optional: I can keep a fodder fail instead of buying a new dragon on pinkerton days, if it fits the theme).
I'm making all of this up on the fly, but hopefully it turns out really cool and not a disaster :) As usual, I'll be updating lore as we go along. Updates on these fledgling old-gods and their titan spawn, of course, as well as the goings-on of the monsters, heroes-in-hiding, and everyone's favorite creepy cultist headmaster. Explanation
I love challenges, and I love using them to grow my increasingly convoluted lore -- and it seems like I always get an itch to do both of those things in the new year! In 2018 it was the Legacy of Lore. In 2019 it was Children of Lore, a demented take on the 100-hatchling challenge (which kind of failed when I went on a six month hiatus oops).

So when I returned from my hiatus and found that a new Ancient Breed had been released, I was intrigued. When I happened to hatch my two free eggs and receive a male and female, shadow and light, with appropriate colors? I KNEW it was fate.

So a lair purge and some rearranging later, and I am ready to pursue a new project -- building a whole clan of perma-dragons born from these new progenitors and their faithful followers.

The Challenge Rules
In my lore, dragons exhibit more genes as they grow in power. These starter dragons are young deities yet, and must gain power by spreading their influence and growing their lineage of titans. Here's how this will happen:

1 - I breed the two starter dragons as-is, triple basic and all
2 - I select an heir from that breeding.
3 - Once that heir is grown, I'll find him or her a mate with all common genes and breed them together until I get a baby with at least one gene upgrade.
4 - When that baby grows up, I'll find it a mate with gene upgrades and continue the process.
5 - Each time a dragon's offspring produces an heir with an upgrade, that pairing will receive an upgrade of its own in the form of a gene scroll.
6 - They can then be bred again, with the same stipulations

Additionally, these gods of light and shadow can attract faithful followers/acolytes to their cause!

Some rules:
 • All mates have to be banescales (obviously)
 • All heirs must be kept as perma-dragons
 • Mates can be exalted or sold or kept as permas
 • When a dragon's grandchild hatches with an upgrade, the dragon can get any sort of gene (it doesn't have to match the hatchling or anything)
 • Each nest, I'll roll a die to see which element they'll be nested in and what "court" is reigning. Even = light. Odd = shadow. (THANK YOU to @freelanceangel for the idea and offering to host!)
 • Every time I draw an apparel item OR familiar from Pinkerton, I can buy a dragon matching the aesthetic of the reigning court.
 • Outside of buying mates and acolytes, NO new perma dragons can be obtained during the challenge! ONLY fodder to train or flip. (Optional: I can keep a fodder fail instead of buying a new dragon on pinkerton days, if it fits the theme).

I'm making all of this up on the fly, but hopefully it turns out really cool and not a disaster :)

As usual, I'll be updating lore as we go along. Updates on these fledgling old-gods and their titan spawn, of course, as well as the goings-on of the monsters, heroes-in-hiding, and everyone's favorite creepy cultist headmaster.

If it’s in my active purge tab, take them. I want them gone.
Ooh another challenge! Hopefully since I'm here from the start I won't miss out on the cute babies like I did with the all the previous ones! Could I be added to your pinglist please?

Good luck! I hope Fugue is okay she's was great.
