Festivoog’s TRIPLE Basic to Rare Genes Challenge!

I signed up for Flight Rising in March and started with my beautiful color-complementary progens: Vision and Starscream.

They had three triple basic (at the time) hatchlings, so I thought: "why not start a Basic to Rare challenge but with triple the fun?" Each hatchling founded their own family line. The goal is simple: each line will try to add progressively rarer genes with each generation, and the challenge ends when each line has 1 descendant with rare/rare/rare genes. For extra fun, the 3 final descendants must be 3 different species and none of them can have the same exact combination of genes. How long will this take? No clue! Follow along for the drama and fun!

The Rules:

1. The current heir can mate once with each partner.
2. The gene rarities of partners must be equal to or surpass the heir.
3. A new heir will be chosen if their gene rarities are equal to or surpass a parent.
4. Once an heir is chosen, the remaining hatchlings can no longer participate in the challenge. Choosing an heir is a done deal! No going backwards! We only look forwards!

Round 1: The First Mates

I picked all fae mates for this round because all 3 founders hatched from a mirror/fae union. Right now I like the idea of 2 of the final 3 being a mirror, fae, and a third species but we’ll see where the RNG and future auction house take us.

Slipstream will be breeding with Shamrock. He’s Avocado/Honeydew/Spring with Swirl/Peregrine/Underbelly. He’s so refreshing and pleasant to look at!

Happy Mistjam! The first sets of eggs hatched!

Slipstream and Shamrock spawned:

Motherboard: peacock/chocolate/thicket | triple common(!) and one-off XYX

RGB: periwinkle/cottoncandy/pear | triple common(!)

Explorer: indigo/yellow/swamp | triple basic

Shutdown: pthalo/red/cyan | triple basic

Motherboard and RGB both skipped Stage 2 and jumped right to Stage 3. I wasn’t expecting to have 2 choices this round! Sorry RGB, your colors are more fun but I’m going with Motherboard as the heir.

Pixie: fuchsia/maize/bubblegum | triple basic

Pixel: ice/maize/rose | Stage 2 (basic and common genes)

Not many upgrades for this set of kids but Pixel will be the heir. On the plus side, Pixel has beautiful colors and both kids definitely have that Arcane aesthetic.

Team Skywarp had a balanced (2 males, 2 females) nest:

Gateway: iris/cobalt/oilslick | triple common(!)

Scroll: violet/smoke/maize | triple basic

Copper: cream/teal/cream | Stage 2 (basic and common genes) XYX!

Treble: gloom/cerulean/platinum | Stage 2 (basic and common genes)

Despite Copper’s impressive XYX colors, Gateway jumped straight to triple common and will be the heir.

Motherboard, Pixel, and Gateway. A good set of hatchlings to continue with the challenge. Will we get a non-mirror heir in the next generation? Time will tell! Happy Mistral Jamboree!

Round 2: Introducing the New Mates

Thanks to the Auction House and a free dragon thread, I found the next set of mates. Best to get it out of the way early so I'm not surfing the auction house and feeling tempted by all the pretty dragons!

Motherboard will be paired with Orok. Man I like bogsneaks. I picked this fella because his parent is named Cybernetic. He'll get along with Motherboard just fine! I'm hoping for a bogsneak heir but the RNG might be against me. But even if the hatchlings don't inherit his breed, they can inherit some pretty cool genes.

Pixel will be matched with Raptorix's GachaCollector. Part of the deal is that Raptor has a claim on one of their offspring. Hopefully their future nest is big enough for an heir to the challenge and at least one hatchling for Raptor. Think 2+ egg thoughts, you two!

Rounding out Round 2, Gateway and Lirael make a good pair. Very blue and purple! As an Old Kingdom series fan I couldn't pass up a dragon named Lirael. :)

Nest update will be in mid-April, when everyone is ready to go.

Motherboard of the Slipstream line and Orok gave us...1 egg. Alas. But at least I can check that off of my RNG bonus list. Little egg, please spend the next few days dreaming about gene upgrades. I believe in you.

Pixel of the Thundercracker line and GachaCollector outdid themselves with 4 eggs! Huge gacha win! Raptorix will have 3 non-heir hatchlings to choose from and I can keep my end of the agreement. Gateway of the Skywarp line and Lirael have a respectable 3 egg nest. The previews of their potential offspring were a wonderful mix of blues and purples. Gonna get some stylish kids out of this batch! (Or hideous, depending on how much you like blue/purple mirrors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.)

Since everyone is nesting on the 15th and it’ll take 5 days until they hatch, does this mean the kiddos will have a 4/20 hatch date? Niiiice

Motherboard and Orok’s 1-egg nest gave us A BOGSNEAK WITH TWO UPGRADES HOLY CANNOLI Meet Digitaria! The sole heir of the Slipsteam line. He’s named after a genus of plants in the grass family. You go, little guy. Pixel and GachaCollector’s nest gave us 4 hatchlings. The gacha gods didn't smile down as much as I'd hoped but we got an upgrade and that's enough for me. Round 2: Weeding Out the Heirs

It’s 4/20 and you know what that means! Plant names. Lots of plant names.

Motherboard and Orok’s 1-egg nest gave us A BOGSNEAK WITH TWO UPGRADES HOLY CANNOLI

Meet Digitaria! The sole heir of the Slipsteam line. He’s named after a genus of plants in the grass family.

Eldritch swirl, white noxtide, periwinkle ghost [common/uncommon/uncommon] 2 upgrades and bogsneak breed! You go, little guy.

Pixel and GachaCollector’s nest gave us 4 hatchlings. The gacha gods didn't smile down as much as I'd hoped but we got an upgrade and that's enough for me.
