It's a long story, dating back many dragon generations to very soon after the Icefields were formed. In those days, before the world had settled down into some semblance of order, the lands of Sornieth were ripe for the taking by any warrior ambitious enough to set their heart on conquest. It just so happens that the very first conquerors to reach the Southern Icefield were cats, armed with swords and ships and ready to do battle. It's a long story, but this is how it ends: and then the cats emerged victorious, because they were too cute to fight and the dragons adopted them instead, and so the cats remain with the Ice Flight to this day.
