Through the thick of the Shrieking Wilds, a single, lush Wildclaw paced. He wove around trunks, ducked under twigs, and stepped over undergrowth as if second nature. He was on alert, despite his mind wandering. There was a Manticore sitting quietly a few copses away, several sun-flecked mice sleeping...perhaps 7 meters to the east?
A sick pull in his stomach told him there was something rotting. Taking a few more twists and turns, he came upon a moderately sized ash tree. When he knocked on the wood, several beetle-like insects scurried out. The Wildclaw winced. Ah, this must be why Maloid has been such a grouch recently.
He then snorted to himself. I take that back, these things happen all the time. Maloid is just a pain.
Even if his senses hadn't told him it, he could here the gentle running of water up ahead. It was the closest rouge vein to the Grove, as many of those ran throughout his territory.

Aulus hated the Shrieking Wilds.
No matter how hard he tried to talk himself out of it, he hated them. He'd dug out several thorns from his feet, gotten bitten by more bugs than he cared to count, and had been forced to walk through plenty of tangled undergrowth.
Meanwhile, above him, his half-brother Inanos slid through the treetops with much less difficulty. He'd taken after their mother- down to the lean Spiral build and the ease with which he intimidated- no, commanded others. While he took the air, Aulus was on ground patrol, which was much harder than it sounded when he couldn't even walk right.
There was a river up ahead- Aulus could hear it if he strained his ears hard enough. It'd be a welcome relief from this dense jungle forest, and maybe Inanos would let them stop for a rest.
Either way, he hoped that they could just get this mission over with. He couldn't wait to get back to camp and let the raiders do the rest.

The thick jungle thinned out a bit as the sound of water got louder. As the trees spaced out, Aulus could see more of Inanos's form above him, before at long last the Spiral was forced back to the ground.
"There's a river up ahead," Aulus whispered. "Do you think we could stop?"
Inanos shook his head. "No," he replied, his voice barely audible. "We need to keep moving. We have a job to do, and I'd like to get it done as fast as possible. This territory isn't being too kind to me."
You're telling me, Aulus thought.
You're not the one stuck on the ground.
The two of them broke through the trees and into the clearing, which was quiet except for the sounds of the stream and the birds.
"Are you sure we can't stop? Please?"

They weren't alone.
Aulus took a nervous step back. There was someone here- if he looked across the river, he could make out the outline of a very camouflaged Wildclaw- and he had no idea how exactly to pull this off without looking suspicious.
Inanos stepped into the front, intercepting before Aulus could say anything stupid. "We're not trying to leave," he replied. "We were just passing through here. The two of us have friends on the other side of the Wilds we're trying to meet with, and we heard this was the quickest way through."
"I mean, you may know more about this place then we do," Aulus interrupted. "While we've got you here, do you mind if I ask if this is the right way?"

"The Behemoth," Inanos replied. "We came from the direction of Light."
The Spiral glanced over his shoulder at Aulus. The Pearlcatcher was fidgeting too much- twiddling his necklace or adjusting his headdress like that probably didn't look very good in the eyes of the other dragon.
He gave his half-brother a warning glance before returning his attention to the dragon across the stream. Hopefully, he was too far away to see.

"Like I said, we're visiting some friends over there," Inanos replied. "They live in a clan in that general vicinity. I don't know this area too well, so, again, a few pointers over in that direction would be appreciated."
No matter which way this was going to go, Inanos was going to lose time. They'd have to lay low for a bit in order to lose the Wildclaw's suspicion if this worked, and if it didn't, well, that was self-explanatory.
Aulus, meanwhile, had taken a vested interest in the trees in the direction they had come from. He wouldn't even look across the river.
