You stumble through the dense forest, a place you once visited often in your hatchling years that now feels as if it was decades ago...or has it been that long? You're snapped out of your own thoughts as the hatchlings call out your name, and you race after them as fast as you can on your humanoid legs. Finally you break through the clearing, bright light blinds you from the morning sun and children laughing greet your ears. Your eyes adjust to the light and you sigh with relief at the sight before you. The Seer is kneeling before the hatchlings, chuckling as they show him their dragon forms. Barley mastering their shifting skills, they make play out of it, a cute sight that everyone cherishes.
The Seer, deemed for being the Mothers voice, her messenger, and more, turns his gaze your way. His pale white eyes, that are now blind from his work pierce through your soul, but his smile warms your heart. "Good morning Seer.." you breath out, not realizing you were holding a breath. "Good morning to you my child, to all of the children good morning...!" He stated motioning for them to sit before him, he slowly lowered his aging frame onto the stone behind him. You are not sure how he does that but even when you were small you realized that some things about him could never be explained. You watch from afar, sitting on a stone of your own. The Seer asks the children about what story they want to hear today and is reward with a good question. A small fae is the bold one to ask, "How did we came to be? How are we able to shift..?" The children gasp and agree begging for the story. A story you haven't heard in years, one that is held close to all dragons alike. The Seer grins, his sightless eyes turns towards the formation behind them. "Well it began ,many, many years ago...."
"The Mother was the first dragon, but not the first living creature, before her there was the humans. A race that was violent, jealous, greedy, and had destroyed much of the planet. But yet they were also loving, caring, selfless, and showed that even they had good amoung them. The Mother lived her life from afar, watching the humans grow and slowly become their own worst enemy. Even though they had ruined most of the planet she learned to love the humans, and was saddened by the dying race. As each year passed their numbers dwindled, the hateful died first, those who were deemed evil killed each other first. They barely clung to any life as the last hundred or so remained, scrapping by to survive on the barren wasteland they had created. Her anger grew with her sadness, she couldn't let them die, they deserved one last chance. During the night of a full moon she set out on a journey, she had a plan, one she hoped would work.
She waited for a few weeks, gaining the trust of the humans, she gave them water, food, shelter. Until they trusted her she deemed one as the speaker for her, the first Seer for her new children. After months of survival she knew they were ready, rules had been placed, they thrived. And it was time, she told them of how she would place the other half of them in their soul. Their dragon counterparts, they would become her children, and she their mother. She would transform the world with her magic, she would create a place of harmony, and the Seer would guide them in her place. Her fire would burn away the death, and plagues that ruled the air, sky, earth, and water. They would become the new keepers of the new land. She believed in them, they knew better, and learned well. When the time came, all of remaining humans were scared, it was frightening but their survival depended on their courage to survive....
They had all gathered up in a giant field before her, her golden body shined as her magic stirred the air around them. Suddenly as her maw opened white burning fire washed over them, and they all retreated into a deep sleep. Their souls were becoming one with their dragons, their other half. As the magic surrounded them, she took off into the air, her body changing colors as she flew around the planet, her white flame never flickering as she burned away the death.
By the time she was done her body had turned almost to stone, her magic almost depleted as she landed in front of her children. The planet was now full of life, everything was green once more, and now they could live. She laid out before them, closing her green eyes as her body went into a deep sleep. She still remains more than a thousand years later, her body now covered in trees and life. Cared for by the Seer, only replaced when they pass, they become her voice. Helping her children when needed. Now four clans rule around the Mother, except for the land deemed holy, the center, the neutral zone..."
You barely snap out of the daze as the story ends, and you can feel your heart pounding in your chest. Now it's time for your own story to begin, but just how do you fit in all of this...?
