Igor stopped strumming his fingers on the table.

They were here, and they were ready as well. It was good that they were. Distortion was not limited to one area of the world- how could it be? There was still much to be done, and there was not much time left to play out the game. His primary Trickster was still a bit... occupied. The dim light of the Velvet Room illuminated his balding head, blade-nose and impossibly wide eyes in strange angles, his countenance made all the more unnerving by the widening smile. The prison cell ahead of him was empty, the Twins watching attentively over it, but he knew it would not stay that way. There were more cells to fill.

"Girls," He called, deep voice reverberating throughout the room. The Twin Wardens whirled, attention rapt. Igor let out a throaty chuckle. His white-gloved hand began strumming the table once more.

"We have some new contenders."

On your phone, the Metaverse Navigator icon began pulsing, the red icon growing larger and larger until it overtook the entire screen. There is no use trying to get rid of it, or to turn off your phone- it overrides all controls, and a deep, rich voice coupled with what sounds like a woman's resonates from your speaker.

"Charles Kendiv. Times Square. Aquarium." There is a brief moment of pause. Then, the feminine, computerized voice of the app responds, "Candidate Found."

The icon becomes transparent, and now, a greyscale map akin to a GPS is now displayed on your phone. It shows you as a red dot, and Times Square is highlighted in vibrant pink. There is a path connecting you to Times Square in red.

"Please move toward the destination."

Palaces: Both Past and Present

Name: Charles Kendiv

Location: Times Square

Cognition: Aquarium

Music: Inside the Water Dragon

Layout and Design: Times Square has been transformed into a massive marine center. The buildings surrounding the Square are now gaint aquariums, with coral, rocks, and sand decorating their bottoms. In Charles' cognition, the people have been transformed into a menagerie of fish. Some are sharks, and some are small minnows that are occasionally preyed upon by larger fish. The Square is alight with the patterns of light refracting off of water, but the peace is marred by the shadow of a monstrous, building-sized great white shark that 'swims' in the air, making a constant circling pattern around the sky-scraper aquariums. Along the side of this shark, is branded the logo of Kendiv Entertainment. Fish and sharks alike that attempt to escape their enclosures and swim along with the Great White are swiftly devoured, or captured by Shadows that prowl the Marine Center in uniforms.

The tallest building, however, rests in the back of this Palace, and is the only building that is not an aquarium. Instead, it appears to be a massive, many-storied visitor's center, guarded by Shadows. At the top of the building is the gaudy, fluorescent blue title of 'Charles Kendiv's Marine Center', written in cursive. Branching from the top of this centre, one can see glass walkways that reach every aquarium. The Great White periodically stops along the top of this building, and then continues its patrol around the Square.

Other Useful Descriptions:

Treasure Chests: "The 'chest' itself was a rectangular-isa, large, decorative clam, with various pearls and and marine plants topping the outside."

Shadows: "...a deceptively friendly looking-Shadow in a curiously plain uniform that an employee might wear. The give-away of the Shadow's nature though was an old scuba-divers' helmet, and, of course, a pair of glowing red eyes."

Dog Shadows appear as fierce seal-dogs, with the oily coat and tail of a leopard seal but the long, limber legs of greyhounds. They are masked with a hardened seaweed clump. Dog Shadows are always Makamis.

In general, the Shadows are of the fairy, watery and deceptively gentle-looking kind. Things like Kelpie, Asparas, Silkies, etc

Safe Rooms: They appear as soothing observation rooms, with a soft blue lighting and smaller fish tanks on all sides. There is a modern feel to them, with supple leather recliners and silver benches and tables. At first glance, one is able to see that most of the rooms appear as actors' private quarters, and various office spaces of the Kendiv Entertainment building that overlooks Times Square. This is due to the weak distortion in these rooms.

Maive was sweaty, uncomfortable, and aching for the cool, air-conditioned environment of her dorm. Though, of course, air-conditioned was a stretch- it was more like a very large fan that stirred up the air enough to keep things relatively bearable. Still, it was more than 90 degrees in the city today, and the massive crowds did nothing to make the situation pleasant. On one of the many advertisement screens, a movie produced by Kendiv Entertainment played its trailer.

Still, she needed money, and this job was bigger than anything she had ever done before. As a college student, she always needed money. This, and the fact that she was looking to possibly add an egg to her instant ramen tonight. Her current client had promised to pay big, something that made Maive rather suspicious of their need to get rid of a their apparently large debt. In fact, the woman had looked quite wealthy, borderline 1% material. But hey, you never know- Maive's parents had learned that lesson a long time ago.

So here she was, hunting Charles Kendiv to put an end to this 'informal debt' business. Maive took a quick look around, before spotting a relative secluded alleyway- she weaved her way through the crowd to get to it, and placed herself as deeply as she could in the back of alleyway. It smelled like urine and alcohol, and she was quite sure that a lone woman like herself would normally be quite unsafe here, but she knew better than to be afraid of the dark. Maive adjusted her blouse and dusted her jeans off, before taking her phone out from her back pocket and tapping on the Metaverse Navigator.

Now then, what does he think of this place? I know he enjoys looking down at the Square from his office building, but... what does he view this place as? A studio? A park? A... oh!

"An aquarium," she said out loud. The woman had said something about how Kendiv was always lost in thought, watching the people and the advertisements to his films. And in one of his interviews- he had commented about how he enjoyed watching his staff 'swimming around, busy with work'. It certainly seemed right- and Maive had had enough experience with the Metaverse to know that that kind of thinking fit right into what a Palace was. Now confident, she glanced around to assure that she was alone, and spoke into the phone.

"Charles Kendiv. Times Square. Aquarium."

A brief pause, longer than normal.

Signal interference? She thought. ...No. Don't be ridiculous.

Finally, the voice of the Metanav spoke. "Candidate found. Beginning Navigation."

There was a sudden moment where Maive felt her heart drop, and then a familiar lightheadedness- accompanied by Time Square distorting and reassembling itself around her, the sounds of the people within fading away. The headache of the conflicting sights and feelings caused Maive to squeeze her eyes shut, and only to the sound of something moving above her did she open her eyes.

"Unbelievable."

An aquarium indeed. The tall buildings around her were replaced with tall glass enclosures, fish and sharks of all shapes and sizes desperately swimming around. The Square's normal vibrance was replaced with a calm, dark blue lighting, the area swathed in the water patterns the light revealed. Up above, was a massive shark, the size of a football field at least. And behind it all, a towering Visitor's Center. It was a sight to behold, and a quick tap on her now-masked face confirmed that she was already seen as a threat. It made sense, given how she wasn't a fish like the others.

But it was intimidating. Never before had she seen such distortion, especially since the majority of her work was in the collective palace of Mementos. Maleficent and she was strong, yes, but a solo mission in a Palace of this size was... difficult. Almost suicidal.

"Are you scared?" Maleficent crowed in her head. "No." Maive hissed out loud. She summoned her halberd, more comfortable with its familiar weight in her hand. "Lets go."

So she stalked forward, cape fluttering behind her and the lavender patterns on her armor emitting a faint glow. Alone? Maybe. But not for long.

Times Square was busy, which wasn't a surprise to Aella. It was after school and she was taking the opportunity to meander with Erin, glancing down at her phone now and then as she wove her way through the crowds. The heat was unbearable and she was eager to get into the AC, but first she had to find the damn restaurant...

"I swear to god, it's supposed to be like, right here!" Aella turned to say to Erin, only for her phone to start chirping at her. "Thank you!" She snapped to her phone in exasperation, as the map slide to gray scale and a red dot illuminated her location.

"Charles Kendiv. Aquarium. Times Square."

"What? No, what are you talking about? I wanted the Shake Shack. Erin, can I borrow your phone? Something's up with mine." She turned back on her heels to look at Erin, only to get a strange feeling of dizziness, her stomach dropping as the world seemed to skid sideways.

She screwed her eyes shut out of instinct, only to crack them open a second later and realizing that she and Erin were not where they started. The buildings were huge, glassy, and it seemed like they were big fish tanks as opposed to the skyscrapers she knew. Fish swam past them through the air, not paying attention to the two of them at all. A dark shadow slowly slid over them, and when Aella looked up, an enormous shark lazily floated along, high up in the sky.

Aella swallowed hard, giving Erin a look of confusion and terror. "...E-Erin? Where are we? What's going on?" She scooted closer to her friend, peering at all the fish with amazement and concern. "Are we dreaming? Is this just a dream? Oh god, did we get jumped and drugged? Are we actually getting mugged?" She pinched herself, hard, mumbling to snap out of it. All she got was a yelp and a stab of pain--and the world didn't change.

She scowled, glancing at Erin. "What do we do?"

Today has been like any other really, well, except for the shh*tty weather... And the endless streets of crowded bodies... And the exhausted feeling of heat as every cent of moisture was sapped dry from your body.

Okay so today been pretty bad, but it could only get better, yeah?

Erin had been walking through Times Square, Aella, one of her many friends, walked along side her as the two tired to track certain points of there interested.

Admittedly, Erin had only been half listen to Aella's anger at her phone, to busy trying to fix her own. She'd been happily listening to music when something rather annoying started to beep at her, her phone going off through the single ear bud she wore, blasting through her ears.

She hissed removing it only to hear something similar from Aella's phone.

"Charles Kendiv. Times Square. Aquarium."

She huffed, eyeing both her's & Aella's phone off, wondering what was wrong? She'd what of spoken up about letting Aella borrow her phone, but right know?

It was just as bad as hers. And then everything went fell into hell & back...

Erin almost stumbled, a sickening feeling pulling over her as she felt light headed, only watching in horror as the world around the two girls shifted & broke into something that shouldn't of been possible. Whilst Aella's eye felt shut, Erin's where simply glued on everything in complete shock, her mouth wide open, know she was paying attention.

Fish swam left & right, in & out in schools, sharks followed, some big, others small, the area and the buildings with become big, glassy, imatdating. As one of the larger sharks swooped past, towering over them, Erin could only released something that sounded among the lines of a dying crow.

Erin's head slowy turned, maybe a bit to slow, as she faced Aella the only thing she could produce at this point was the same sound of a dying crow.

It took many, many minutes to come to some of her scenes as she stumbled back, easily grasping for Aella's hand & holding it tight, obvious afraid. She could only mutter one thing at this moment as Aella asked.

"Hope to god we find answers soon because I'm kinda freaking the F*CK out." She breathed.

A tall high schooler stepped out of the subway station and into the masses of people trying to reach their destination. The underground of New York was always busy even at night, they didn't call the city that doesn't sleep without a reason. James is dressed in his favorite hood today, jamming to music as he makes his way from the train station and into the city streets. Today he has a target, Charles Kendiy to be exact, who was the person he needed to find. Jamie spend a good amount of his time researching this man, just he could seal the deal.

The teenager tried to keep his distance from peering eyes as he turned the right corner and tapped his phone to enter the metaverse. In the crowed streets of times square, Jamie lifted his phone to say.

" Charles Kendiv. Times Square. Aquarium "

Another voice followed his suit only moments later, confirming his information and sending reality into a spin. People started to slow down as if time started, noise became distorted and almost painful to listen as did the familiar sensation and traveling to a different plant overtook Jamie. He had to lean himself on a wall to handle the sensation, he was NEVER going to get used to this feeling. NEVER.
His hand reached his temples and he rubbed his fingers to help relieve some pain, and Jamie looked up to see Times Square completely change. He was now in a huge aquarium on a kinder garden field trip.
Tall buildings look like fish tanks and there was all kinds of underwater foliage around them. What was the most bizarre was the people had all becomes different types of sea creatures. Jamie whistles, this place looked pretty impressive for just one guys Palace. This was defiantly gonna be a tough, but the teen was sure he could handle it.

Don't be hasty, says Okami in his ears, This place is the biggest place we have fought yet and it would unwise to take it lightly. " Pshhh, we will probably be fine. You said that about the last one and we turned out okay. " Jamie responses as he makes sure everything is in order. Okami grew silent, but did not to anything but snicker. She could helped but agree that Jamie was right, but still she wanted him to be careful.
The teen adjusts his mask, bodysuit, and armor before taking cautious steps forward. His scarf caught the breeze of someone neat by as did his eyes. Not to far from him was another person, in full armor making her way to his destination. Is it a shadow? Jamie pondered as followed after her steps.

Arbor falls to their knees with an audible pained inhale sound and then a rough sort of pant continued. "OOooo." A worn bandaged fingered hand goes to rest on their temple at the sudden Displace and Distort the world just took. Low endurance was fact of their youth. Eyes swimming the highschooler wastes little- What-WHAT IS this place? Eyes fan in Wonder at the new wild landscape. FISH FISH EVERYWHERE. An unexpected giggle takes hold. Still looking around Arbor refocuses on the tasks. Jamie, gotta find Jamie....Wonder...what...how...I wonder if I got hit by a car and am dead or dying in a ambulance right now. JAMIE GOTTA LOOK FOR JAMIE. James Cardenas was indeed a good friend of Arbors. One of few, so when he started looking ill from apparently Late Nights doing Something, the younger student had begun to worry. Despite all of Arbor's efforts their questions where turned down or slide away and so This- tailing their best friend at night into...

A Shocked Gasp takes the bluenette. There is-Was most Certainly a Tall Knight standing there. Standing right where Jamie was standing what could have been a minute but might have been an Hour ago. The air was cool with that refrigerated air sorta none-scent, the blue lighting is BRIGHT and the soft hum of the aquarium almost nice.

Arbor stumbles to their feet, geta making the clack clack sound of wood on tile. "Ja-Jamie~?" A nervouseness accents the usually Soild and Sturdy tones. "Jamie Please....Please tell me that is somehow you and I have no died and/or about to die again at the hands of some hell demon."
Arbor takes several steps towards the knight(very much Jamie). "What do you see over there-GACK!!!"
Arbor falls over again as a simply MASSIVE shark swims by over head. A trembling sets into to their reasonably light skin a hand half raised eyed trained on it.

Joan Superbia
Times Square, New York

Joan sighed, her left hand tightening into a fist as her knuckles turned white from how tight that she was holding it in place. Her eyes were focused on the sketch that she had made in her right hand. She had learned from a few people of the girls assistance in getting rid of the debt of someone who had been apart of her brothers kidnapping. Her nails dug into the sensitive skin of her palm, as her canines dug into the skin of her lip.

She wanted her brother back, to finally leave those kidnapping blackmailing a**holes and to finish college with a clean slate. She folded the paper up and then placed it into the pocket of her hoodie. Brown eyes, slightly red from lack of sleep and too much caffeine looked over her surroundings, Times Square was someplace she had never truly dreamed of seeing before her parents death. It had only been a place to her, where every New Years they dropped a huge glittery ball to signify a new year and that was it. Now she lived in a small apartment, alone and wishing that she was anywhere else and with her little brother.

A breath was taken, hitching slightly as she thought of how cruel the world was to people. She was only 19 and Dimitri was only 10, the thought of what they could be doing to him made her stomach rebelled she once again tried to derail her thoughts as she pulled out her phone and her earbuds. Music always helped her to clear her mind and right now she wasn't in the mood for listening in on other peoples conversations.

Her thumb had been hovering over the play button for one of her favorite songs before the screen turned a bloody shade of red with black splatter in the middle, a red eye that had a black star as the pupil rested in the middle of the splatter and she sighed before taking out her earbuds and proceeded to drop them. She kneeled, one knee against the ground with the other against her chest and her left arm supported the top half of her body as it clutched at the fallen chords. Her right arm rested with the phone on top of her bent right knee as the voice finally spoke aloud.

"Charles Kendiv. Times Square. Aquarium."

Joan's eyes closed, feeling the familiar drop and then twist of her stomach that signaled the world around her was changing into that of a person's palace. There was the familiar sensation of her clothes shifting and changing along with the weight of her weapons and mask being placed on her form. Her eyes opened slowly as she stood to examine the palace around her. Aquarium fit the place well and she couldn't help to admire the palace for a few seconds. A large shark swimming lazily over the square provided an interesting point of view to how this Charles Kindiv saw himself and the world. It reminded her of that time- No focus and pay attention to your surroundings, she chastised herself.

"Are you ready for what is to come my Priestess?" Huanglong whispered in her head, and she smiled at the warm voice of the dragon. She gave a small nod knowing that they would understand her before beginning the search for the source of the chaos happening around her. A noise distracted her, distinctively feminine to her ears and sounding completely confused as to what was happening. If they somehow managed to get to a palace then it would be best if she kept them in eyesight rather than risk the chance of them getting in her way later on.

What met her eyes surprised her very little, as it was almost what she had expected to meet. She sighed tiredly as her free hand rubbed over the forehead of her mask and eyes before continuing toward the two girls. Her outfit fluttering around her as her hair swayed in its high ponytail while approached the two who sounded like some sort of dying animal.

"Be easy on them my priestess, this might be their first time in a palace." Huanglong chided although she could hear the beings humor in the two teens noises. 'Please tell me I never sounded like that.' Joan retorted and her persona snorted before going quiet again. The action causing her to sigh before coughing into her fist to draw the twos attention toward her.

"Geez what are you two doing here?" Her voice was flat, however there was definitely notes of amusement and sarcasm in it. Joans brown gaze flickered between the two girls who were definitely still in high school. "By the powers you two are lucky, stick with me and you just might not end up dead."
