Sornieth is a place of constant chaos. The deities are always doing battle and clans fight among each other seeking dominance. Amid this chaos, strange portals began to open across the continent. At first, many sought to study these gateways, but they soon proved to be more than just inter-dimensional openings. New alter-species began pouring out and slaughtering the preexisting dragon hoards, claiming to serve alter-version of Sornieth's cherished deities. The world began to warp and bend around the cracks in reality. Clans disappeared, death tolls rose, but we began to fight back. Just when we thought we had a chance, the reality-bending dragons disrupted the Shade and its containment. Now, there are three sides to the world: Shade, Alter, and Elder. Whichever side you're on, you only have two options:
Fight or Die.

Rumor has it there was a ritual constructed to destroy the portals and banish the Alters back to their realm. Perhaps, if found and performed, there might be hope yet for Sornieth.
The Drake's Eye. A magically sustained island surrounded by what's left of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Naturally protected and sworn to secrecy, this place has become an oasis for many dragons who can find their way here. There's a market district with all sorts of shops, inns, and even small clans that have set up here. One can only wonder who or what a dragon could encounter in this place, and what they could know...

It was an old thing, clearly, some piece of ancient power. But what it went to, he only had the barest of ideas, several notes on the old map he had unfolded writing out his various hypothesis. He sighed and leaned over the stone again, reaching out to trail his claws over the grooves and cracks in its face. It was half of a large, round stone, carved with a circular, looping pattern, nearly worn-down marks of the Elemental flights along the edges--about half of them, if he was counting correctly. It was clearly important, the thing had formerly been charged with an astounding amount of energy. But he had no leads on it, save one...but that was a fantasy. A ritual to right the world was silly at best, right? The fae's nose wrinkled and he shook his head with a sigh. Best to wait for his entourage to return before he made any rash decisions. It was either important or it wasn't, and their insight was valuable. So he settled back, continuing to diligently inspect the stone and making little notes on the map, rather oblivious to the dragons around him.

She apologizes and pardons her way through the crowd until finally reaching the bar. She plunks herself down a couple seats away from the Fae. Her dusky eyes glow with a bright purple light as she fixes her hat and orders a drink. Then, she reaches into her bags and pulls out a hefty stone fragment covered in intricate markings. Her eyes seem to glow even brighter as they widen in astonishment and wonder, a grin splitting her face. "I think this is it Scranton! This is what we've been looking for!!" A Strangler poked its head out of another one of her bags, lurching forward and coiling around its owner's neck to peer at the strange tablet. It flicked its tongue with a small hiss, seeming to sense the Guardian's excitement and becoming equally curious. "I know, right?? Oh, I wish I could decipher these runes... the blasted thing looks like it's been broken in half! I can sorta make out the elemental symbols... what do you think?" The Strangler looked from the Guardian to the stone and then back to the Guardian. It flexed its coils in what was probably intended as a shrug, then retreated back into its pouch. The Guardian sighed. "Scranton you're no help at all..." She continued poring over the tablet, gazing at it with as scholarly a manner as she could muster.

One of his fins twitched as the door slammed open, the fae too absorbed in his study to really pay it any mind. It was clearly a ritual item, or maybe some kind of key? It was so hard to tell when he only had half of it. Some of the runes were legible, but not nearly enough to get anything useful in terms of information. He tapped a claw against it with a little sigh of frustration. If he had access to his old hide he could probably read this out, maybe translate it. Maybe if he just...he shook his head and frowned a little. No, he left that behind long ago. He couldn't come back now.

Heaving a slow sigh, he spared a glance at the dragon that had just come to sit beside him...and then took a double take when he saw what was in her hand. The fae stared at it for a few moments, the half of the circular stone tablet in her grasp, then glanced down at his, then back to hers. He was stunned, to say the least. Speechless for a moment, the fae slowly gathered his wits, stepping hesitantly towards the guardian at the bar and softly clearing his throat. "E...excuse me, miss..?" He started as he lifted a paw to get her attention, his other grabbing at the map to pull it and the stone with him.

The Guardian didn't really take note of the Fae at first, as she was studying deeply.
"Oh, uh, yeah I'll have the fish oil on ice please."
Her Strangler lifted its head out of its pouch once again to glance at the little Fae and possible request its own drink. It noticed the fragment the dragon was holding and slithered over the Guardian's back, reaching down and flicking its tongue at it. It then whacked its neck against the Guardian's in an attempt to get her attention.
"Wha? Oh, uh, can I get a water too? Do bars have water...?" The Strangler bumped into her side again. "Scranton, what?? I'm not getting fish oil, it's bad for your... roots..." She finally turned around and saw the tablet.
She gave out a small chuckle. "Hehe, hey, that looks almost like..." She turned back to her own fragment, pausing for a moment as the realization dawned on her. She whipped back around to the Fae, eyes wider than molten tadpoles.
"You- I- the thing- how-??" She grabbed her head, trying to process what was going on. "By the Eleven... I must be dreaming!"

He was in his own sort of daze as he waited for the guardian to finally notice what he was carrying, body almost trembling from the mounting excitement. "If this is a dream, I-I'm not sure I want to wake up." He replied, eyes fixed more on the tablet than the dragon for a few moments. It was almost the same--the same shape of the break, the markings, the runic circles of the Flights missing on his half. "That...that tablet you have. The--The half, rather." He was sort of tripping over his words in an effort to get them out, tugging the map and fragment closer to push them in front of her so she could get a better look.

"We have...different halves..." He was talking half to himself, taking a few tentative steps closer to the half the guardian had brought out, stretching his neck out to look closer at it without invading its space. "Where did you...how did you find this? I-I looked everywhere for its other half, I thought it had been...been destroyed." He stared for a few more moments before perking up and quickly looking back up to her. "I-I'm sorry, miss, I just...never thought I'd see this tablet's other half."

She appeared equally dazed and stricken.
“I... um...” she seemed to be struggling with recounting her own memories. “I was traveling through some old ruins and I just sorta found it... in a chest... buried chest... yeah...” She scratched behind her fins. “Honestly, I came straight here after I discovered it, I didn’t really realize it was only just a half until I saw you with... what I can only assume to be... the other...” She seemed quite absorbed by the two.
“Do.... do you think we should... y’know... put them together...?”

The fae nodded furiously at the suggestion, quickly skittering back to his half of it to push it closer to her. "Yes! Yes, absolutely we should." He whispered almost breathlessly, hooking his hands under the tablet turn it so it was facing her right-side up. He was nearly trembling with excitement, his tail flicking eagerly as he glanced back up to her. "Go ahead, miss. Put them together, make this whole." He was nearly bouncing, fins and ears all perked up as he looked at her with an expectant gaze, eyes flickering between her and the other half, absolutely raring to see what they looked like together and see if the text was legible.
