Welcome to Little Mere, friend!

Long has the fantastical suffered at the hands of man, hunted or belittled. But everyone deserves happiness and life in comfort. After learning of the haven Forest Nook, our founders decided to create their own city. They chose a lush forest that seemed to be completely out of reach of human growth and exploration.. No human city for miles, and even the most expirenced hiker would be foolish to venture that far into the wilderness. To the unmagical eye the area looks completely untouched without even a single little, lonely cabin or the guttering remains of a campfire in sight. Well, looks can certainly be deceiving. Protected by powerful wards and spells to both hide the city from prying eyes and turn people who don't need the protection away, a small but bustling city sits nestled into the forested expanse. However, it's inhabitants aren't anything so mundane as your average humans. No, they are something more unique, more magical. Those beings who have no place in the modern age, where humans rule the Earth and fantastical and mythical beings are confined to myth and legend, and pop culture, else risk being hunted or tortured. This city is a sanctuary for a wide variety of creatures just trying to live normal lives away from a world that would never accept them. Werewolves wanting to be orthodontists, an ogre who owns a coffee shop, a demonic aerobics instructor, and many more. The town is not limited to legends or so-called monsters either. Humans blessed with magic or otherworldly powers find refuge within the town as well, living a life where their talents aren't belittled or else bring death pounding on their door.

Protected, they live out their daily lives in peace, aside from the normal trials and drama that comes along with living. What might await those within the city of Little Mere?

*Please note this is a remake of an Rp that never got on its feet. Several elements will be the same or like the origional, Forest Nook! Please ask before you submit a character form, as we may decide aginst accepting anyone new.*

 1. No GMing/PPing. (Basically, don't use overpowered characters and don't control other people's characters without their permission.)
 2. No one liners. Have at least a decent-sized paragraph.
 3. If you know that you will be gone for a large amount of time, please inform the rest of the Rp group, and tell us how you would like your character to function while you are gone.
 4. Follow normal FR Rp rules.
 5. Create unique characters, try to add varity to our little cast of misfits. Like if two people have a vampire, try to use something different. Same with jobs, try to have something unique, so that we don't end up with like twenty car shops or something.
 6. Maximum of 2 characters per person.
 7. Humans with magic/psychic abilities are allowed, but again, don't be op. Fantasy creatures must be either humanoid or be able to take on a humanoid/human form.

Magic
Innate Magic
Innate magic, the magic you are born with or gather over time. This form of magic is unique comapred to other magics
Tame?/Common Magic
Elemental/Wild Magic
Elemental magic is, pun intended, wildly different than any other type of magic. Compared to any other type magic, elemental magic is far less practiced, due to the fact it is far harder to control, let alone master, than other types of magic. Since it is so rarely practiced, very little is known about it, except that you need extrodariny patience to even try to learn it. Most peoples with shorter life spans don't even attempt even the most basic spells, because of how hard to control the magic is.

City
The grand city of Little Mere is a meticulously organized place, so much so its wondered if the planner was a perfectionist. Nestled deep in the woods with steep cliff drop to the ocean not a ten minute walk away from the North-East side, Little Mere is an almost perfect circle shape. The city is seperated into three areas, two large rings around a smaller center. The outtermost and larger of the rings is the residential area. Due to many shop owners living in their shops, the residental is not entirely huge, but it is still much larger than tbe commerical ring. The inner and smaller ring is tbe commercial ring, where business happens. The center area has been made into a large park called Mereian Park, with a giant and achient tree in the center. Many of the protection spells put on the city are centered on this tree. People come here to relax or spend time in tamed nature. Most of the roads in Little Mere are dirt, as most people don't own cars, prefeeing to bike or walk instead. Small trees or ornate light posts decorate the sidewalk, which is always meticulously kept.

Places
Mereian Park
A giant park that sits in the center of Little Mere. A achient tree grows in its center. While the tree is acient, ot is not very tall, standing at around thirty feet tall. Small crystals are tied to each branch, varying in size to small as a finger nail to as large as a fist. The protection spells that hide the city are rooted in these crystals. Around the park, scattered, are statues. There are a few of the founders of the city and many of heros from achient stories that the creators enjoyed. The park hosts a varity of flora and fauna, with edible berry bushes and small fruit trees attracting a number of small birds and other small animals, and in the spring families of deer come here to raise their children. Around an eighth of the park has been dedicated to children, a small enclosed area with a floor pf wood chips instead of grass. A number of jungle gyms and other play equipment have been scattered around the area, as well as wooden benches and magically sourced water fountains.

Black Forest
A small bistro/bakery fusion that sits on the inner edge of the commercial ring. Built openly, with a flowing floor plan, a combination of modern and rustic styles, the space appeals to everyone. While the shop is often considered to be hipster, its also popular around the more hustle-bustle part of the city, renowned for its quick service. The shop is also well known for its great views, the great tree in the center of Mereian park easily visible from the window seats, as well as some of the more famous statues.

Livingstone Books
A quaint bookstore, officially open five days of the week though its actual schedule is much more chaotic. The store not only sells books, but can appraise their value.

Eyes of Avarice
A small jewelry and metalworkings shop. All materials are sourced locally, and the shop even sells cave flora the owner finds while on expiditions to gather materials. All works are forged in the back room of the shop.

Misty Mountain Tea
A large, almost imposing building, MMT sits in a renovated movie theater.. Most of the ground floor walls have been removed, save for some support columns. Two bay windows allow light to flood in from the front of the store. A reading nook sits behind the left window. The kitchen is situated at the back of the shop and is open so the customers can see its inner workings. The back wall is decorated with old photographs, of the store as a theatre and back when the owning couple was renovating it. The store not only sells tea, also offered are hot coco, cider, and varying types of coffee. Rarely sweet snacks are offered, though the owner is not the best chef. All the herbs used in the tea are grown on the roof of the building. The owner also livex on the second floor, accessible by a metal stair way in the allyway.

Little Mere Postal Service
A moderately sized building on the very edge of the industrial circle. While technically in the residential circle, a small flat lot surrounding the building seperates the Post Office from the homes of the residential circle. In the flat lot, the chosen steeds of mail delivers reside. The Post Office has been run for generations by the Lovana family.

Little Mere High School
A smaller sized school, with only two hallways, but still one of the largest buildings in Little Mere. The school was built with natural light and air flow in mind, with huge easy open windows. The school is two floors tall.

Flickerflame Library
A quaint, fairly aesthetic building. The exterior of teh red brick building has been going back to nature for a while now, and is covered with moss and flowering climbing vines. Some pieces of the ritch facade has chipped away with the weather. Inside, the library gives off just as a fantastical aura, though its very different. The inside of the library is well kept, lit by floating candles, and furnished in oak wood. The first thing library goers are greeted by is a large, c shaped main desk. To the right are bookshelves, burried deep under books, with reading nook scattered around. To the left is a grand staircase leading to the second floor, a mirror of the first. The current head librarian lives in the attic.

Mereian Beach
Around a ten minute walk from town is the ocean. In a genteel c shaped curve carved into the cliffside a beach sits. A set of stairs carved into the cliffside allows the citizens access to the beach. A rather nice beach, with fine black volcanic sand, the beach is a place to enjoy during the summer. The black sand actually helps warm the water when its sunny, so usally the water is pleasant.

Mini Mere
A tiny selkie village set into a chasam in the cliffside. While the village has no offical name, residents have taken to calling it Mini Mere, do to its proximity to the larger town. The villagers will happily trade their catch of fish to locals for shiny trinkets, useful tools, or land food that the selkies cannot make themselves.

Setting
Weather
It is currently winter, and while it long ago finished snowing, there is snow everywhere.

The town has been completely burried under snow, around four to five feet of the stuff. Already snow men and mazes have arose, standing tall, swolen with all the fresh snow. Snow piles have build up greatly over night, completely trapping those with doors on the windward side of their homes. The sky is clear, with no new clouds for miles. A chilly breeze continues shaping the colorless plains that blanket the town.
Time
It is late December, and the snow doesn't look like it's leaving any time soon. It is later in the day, Christmas Eve.

Festivities in full force, the moon shines brightly overhead. Most of the town is concentrated in the community center/town hall building enjoying a number of activities from contests to a full blown snow war.

Name: Cat Age: 20 Gender/Pronouns: She/Her Sexuality: Pansexual Species: Animal familiar (in the shape of a big and fluffy black cat) Occupation: Barista at Black Forest Bakery Workplace: Situated in the centre of Little Mere, right across the Mereian Park, sits a little place, a fusion between a bistro and a bakery, that goes by the name of Black Forest. It has a lovely view of the surrounding shops, as well as the park and its ancient tree. Black Forest is primarily a bakery that serves a huge assortment pastries and cakes, but you can also order something savory to snack on while you sit down and enjoy a hot drink. The main attraction of Black Forest is most certainly its novelty coffee brews, prepared personally by Cat. It’s considered kind of a hipster place, but it’s also popular among people who’re hustling and bustling about on their way to work in the centre of the city. The inside of Black Forest is cosy but not cramped, with a style that merges modern with elegant rustic. The scenery changes with the seasons and on special holidays with the use of a little magic. As of now, you’ll find that Black Forest is delightfully Christmas-themed, but not overwhelmingly so… A handmade holly wreath hangs above the fireplace, and you’ll find splashes of red and green all around, on tablecloths, decorations, menus and even the uniforms of the employees. Appearance: Cat is often referred to as a tall (and chubby) drink of water. She has an aptly latte-colored skin with freckles along her cheeks and long, shiny black curls that fluff up in every direction, especially on humid days. She keeps it in a ponytail that often comes undone on its own around the end of her work day. She wears a leather collar around her neck, which some people theorize may be a kink-related thing... The collar, though, once had a symbol of devotion to the witch she formerly served hanging from it like a bell, but now that space is blank as she's not made a contract with any magical entity since. Once someone employs Cat as their familiar once again, a special symbol will reappear to symbolize the particular bond between them. For her uniform, her work clothes are tidy, yet stylish and casual. She wears an apron over a buttoned shirt that changes colors accordingly with the seasons and holidays, accompanied by a matching pencil-skirt and whatever flavor of wedged boots she decided on that day. It should be noted that Cat walks much more gracefully on her toes than she does on her heels, so she’s never seen in any type of flat shoe. Her casual attire consists of soft sweaters and scarves, skirts and heeled boots. Occasionally, she'll subtly work a catlike theme into her outfit, like a cat-eared headband, or a t-shirt just covered in cutesy prints of kittycats. She’s seen very often in an over-sized t-shirt with a print of an Animal Crossing character on the front (it’s Punchy). She truly owns the half-cat part of her identity unabashedly, despite not being named by anyone at the time. As a cat, Cat resembles a large and chubby black mainecoon with blue eyes and long fluffy fur. Like her ponytail, the fur on her tail puffs up in every direction and defies all laws of gravity. Backstory: When we die, our spirits return to their true form - glimmering spheres of light without any memories of their past selves... Some choose to be reborn here or elsewhere, some move on and become one with the great unknown, and some become trapped in-between that somewhere and nowhere, unable to pass between realms, purposelessly floating, trapped and alone… That was all Cat was when her witch found her and gave her a name. Once given a name, one is able to shape a spirit into their familiar - a conduit for their magic to strengthen it and to filter out any impurities in their casting. Familiars are pure spirits, and easily able to dispel anything unwanted out of any caster’s magic. In return, the familiar is loved, taken care of and given a home and a purpose. This symbiotic bond is a close one, and it hurts to break from both sides, but it can be done... After many years in service of her patroness, the bond between Cat and her witch was suddenly cut and, the witch just disappeared from Cat's life never to be seen again. Ever since then, Cat's been more introverted and slower to open up to others. She has a wall-mounted tv with a case full of video games and vinyl remakes of modern CD’s, even though she doesn’t own a vinyl player. *Cat enjoys catnip, even in her human form, and a whiff of the stuff is a good cure for when she feels anxious. Name:
Cat
Age:
20
Gender/Pronouns:
She/Her
Sexuality:
Pansexual
Species:
Animal familiar (in the shape of a big and fluffy black cat)

Occupation:
Barista at Black Forest Bakery
Workplace:
Situated in the centre of Little Mere, right across the Mereian Park, sits a little place, a fusion between a bistro and a bakery, that goes by the name of Black Forest.

Appearance:
rQAXQoe.png
Cat is often referred to as a tall (and chubby) drink of water.

Backstory:
When we die, our spirits return to their true form - glimmering spheres of light without any memories of their past selves... Some choose to be reborn here or elsewhere, some move on and become one with the great unknown, and some become trapped in-between that somewhere and nowhere, unable to pass between realms, purposelessly floating, trapped and alone…

That was all Cat was when her witch found her and gave her a name.

Hihi! This looks exactly like what I am after, a lil fantasy rp group. I found it through the original thread (cuz saw that one first then read through, lol).

Would it be okay to ask if I could maybe join? No worries at all if not! I just wanted to ask in case.

I would be wanting to play around with an OC I already have made, if that is alright? Just fleshed him out, lol.
He is quiiite young according to phoenix years in his background, but I thought this rp might be a neat way to build him up more, since it seems like a place he would stumble upon.

Kyrialen

Anyways, if the character doesn't fit, or you wanna close off to others, no worries!

Thanks for the chance~

backstory: aki is a traveller. or... was. she spent all her life on the move and never stopped for anyone. her life was surprisingly regular for the only daughter of a demon from a fire realm. she took after her mother anyways, spending more time in vanaheim than elsewhere. aki took up astral travel as a youngling, which is the ability to separate your body into atoms and move in that fashion. because atoms move much faster when not attached to a particular form, it's far easier to get places this way. aki pretends that she is a widow. she was married by her early twenties and had a daughter a bit later, but left her in an orphanage in another realm as she hindered aki from travelling. her latest travels with her husband left them on a ship in space, fending off interdimensional life where she ultimately lost her left arm. her husband leaves her soon after in search of their daughter, and aki winds up in the forest, opening a bookshop named after the orphanage she left her daughter in, livingstone. Reposting characters for newcomers seems like a good idea, so here's mine (I also changed some details from the original)

Name: Averi

Age: 26

Gender/Pronouns: They/them

Sexuality: Demiace

Species: Chimera

Occupation: Jeweler and metalworker who enchants and sells accessories from their business, Eyes of Avarice. They get all of the metals and gems required from a personal mine not too far from the outskirts of Little Mere, and sells any additional resources such as local cave flora and fauna that they find there as well. Custom orders are also available for request.

Workplace: Eyes of Avarice fits it’s title well, as it’s a carefully built place of dark stained wood and stylish brick. The interior is oddly cozy for a glorified jewelry shop with a sunken floor design and many different styles of shelving full of jewelry and raw stone or metal ores on display. The floors are industrial marble but covered in a bright patchwork of fluffy rugs, and rustic lanterns lining the walls provide lighting for the shop. In the space behind the checkout table in the back is a door labeled “STAFF ONLY” that leads to Averi’s forge and workshop, where there is also a spiral staircase leading to the small upstairs area. Although the second floor is completed with utilities for living, it’s only used for storage space.

Appearance: Averi has olive green eyes with snakelike pupils and a willowy build that often causes others to underestimate their strength. Their skin has a blue-grey sort of tint to in, and is scattered with scales of a swampy blue-green color. Their hair grows in a wavy sort of mane in a deep navy color, kept about shoulder length and too unruly to cooperate with any sort of attempt to style it. Their tongue is forked and accompanied by a sharp set of teeth, two of which resemble snake fangs, and they have a long scaly tail with barbs resembling porcupine quills running atop it. Both their quills and fangs are venomous.

Their typical outfit is a practical one of black leggings, monochrome colored shirts, hiking boots and gloves used for handling metal when at work. However the accessories Averi wears more than makes up for the plain outfit. They often wear elaborate necklaces, bracelets, and earrings of their own design, the style and color changing from day to day depending on their mood.

Personality: Averi is a critical, standoffish sort of person at first glance but with a keen eye for detail. They have a taste for the finer things that can be found in Little Mere, and prides themself in quality of their craftsmanship. Despite this, Averi is genuinely mindful and courteous. They will gladly invest the time and effort it takes to get to know someone, often leading an ear to listen free of judgement if needed. Being a tolerant, no pressure sort of person who enjoys quiet time getting to know others, Averi would make a good friend if it wasn't for their unfortunate tendency to keep people at arm's length.

Averi often lets others do all the talking upon first getting to know them, quietly going about their day to day business and pursuing hobbies that take them deep into the forest. However they have a certain ambitious streak to them that isn't normally shown and will tirelessly pursue any goal they may have in mind, sometimes to the point of obsession until their objective is reached. They enjoy travel as well, being one of the few people who explore the deep woodland and mountain areas around Little Mere. They enjoy telling of their many discoveries to any friends they might have, finding enjoyment from discovering something new and figuring out a use and classification for it. They have an interest in art and architecture, although their building designs remain unshared. Averi views the world like it's a sort of puzzle that can be solved one day at a time, and will gladly give thoughtful advice and constructive criticism to those who ask for it.

Backstory: When we die, our spirits fade into a memory of what once was. We're simply spheres of bejeweled nostalgia, stripped bear of all desire and set free to seek another purpose - but what if such a purpose, rather than found by the spirit in question was forced upon an unwilling soul? Such creations are unnatural, mere puppets of the necromancers who dare to call such a warped thing back into life.

Averi is one of these unfortunate beings, a floating spirit that was compelled by dark magic to reanimate the form of a cave nymph that had been modified with traits of three other animals: a crocodile, a porcupine, and a rattlesnake. Averi was then made the familiar of the mage who had orchestrated their creation, hoping that this custom pet would put their dangerous gifts to good use and aid in their sinister plans for sinister things like world domination and cutting in line for morning coffee. Averi gladly obliged, being new to the world and lacking a will of their own. But as the years went by, Averi managed to form some semblance of a conscious mind and started studying scrolls secret, learning to master their own abilities both arcane and otherwise. When they had learned enough to surpass the mage in strength, Averi rebelled and in the conflict severed the bond of master and familiar.

Two years before present day, Averi found themselves free but unused to such freedom. People both normal and supernatural alike already looked on them as a monster, and they were unsure what came next for them. As soon as Averi heard rumors of Little Mere, the hidden city that allowed anyone and most importantly anything through its doors, they left the ruins of their former home to pursue a new life halfway across the globe. Averi discovered much about themselves during that journey, learned the art and joys of metalworking, and for the most part managed to join the ranks of Little Mere without incident. It took awhile for them to settle into their place within the city and still remains rather keen for new adventures, but otherwise has lived happily in Little Mere ever since.

Other:
- Averi's shop is in the same market area as Cat's and rän-aki's, although it's across the street and down the road a ways. Athough it has a second floor that could be used as a modest flat they don't live in their shop, but had a custom home built to their tastes in one of the nicer parts of town.

- Averi takes great pride in their craftsmanship, and has the tendency of putting newer products on flash sales or in places easily seen. Because of this, the more obscure corners of their shop has become rather cluttered with older, less popular (but infinitely more strange and interesting) jewelry pieces. Jewelry with heavier and more potent enchantments on it somehow find these hidden places as well.

- They have the supernatural ability to actually win the prizes in arcade games, and their presence is both dreaded and celebrated equally in arcades they visit regularly.

- Averi loves to read classic literature and less known fantasy novels, and has and extensive collection from several years of browsing local book shops. They won't often admit it, but they have quite the passion for manga as well.

- As a hobby, Averi likes to make their own metal wire puzzles, but most are so elaborate and complex that they remain unsolved to this day.
