Seeds of Change
Roleplay
By @subernabur and @Zayuri

Welcome to the Seeds of Change roleplay! Before you continue, please read the following rules.

  • If you want to join, please don't interrupt the thread. Talk in our OOC thread instead!
  • We only have five slots open, and two of those are already taken by Zayuri and I. Please don't get angry at us because we don't have any slots open.
  • If you have any suggestions or comments, please put them in the OOC thread or message one of the owners. Basically just use the OOC thread unless you're a roleplayer.
  • When it comes to roleplaying, you know the obvious rules. Don't be mean or explicit.
  • No godmodding!
  • Unless someone hasn't been active for a long time, please be patient with others! Don't write five posts in a row.
  • We want literate roleplay. If you need an example, then please ask me or Zay in our DMs.
  • If you are taking one of the slots, please subscribe to the thread!
  • We aren't going to set an explicit limit, but please. Don't make fifty characters. I do this too, but it's really not necessary.
  • This roleplay is taking place in the Flight Rising universe! Your main characters should be dragons. Familiars are ok, but please have at least one dragon. (Also, please include a picture of your dragon!)
  • If you haven't been active for a long time and people want to move on or take your slot, we will message you telling you that you need to reply. If you want to leave, just tell me!
  • If you don't respond to said message, we will have no choice to cut you out of the roleplay. (You will have at least three days to reply.)
  • Please catch up with the roleplay! You don't need to read every single message, but at least get a general idea.

I know, a lot of rules. But this is my first roleplay in the forums, and I want to make sure that we get everything right. If you've read all of that, then congrats! Your reward is reading more lists.

On the topic of the actual roleplay!

On the day that came to be known as the Displacement, an earthquake shook Sornieth. The tremors could be felt faintly across all territories, with the exception of the Southern Icefields. The Shadow territory was hit hardest by the quaking, uprooting many dens and leaving thousands of dragons without a home. Those who were left homeless fought over resources and tried to rebuild, but a dark secret was discovered among the rubble. A new cave had been opened, and the long forgotten residents of the caverns below were eager to keep out unwanted visitors.

Many new caverns were found, but they centered around the largest one, a huge hole in the Tangled Wood. Now, dragons are being sent to explore the caverns.

Aaaand that's basically it! Make sure to follow the rules, and, to be cliche, have fun!

Faynore huffed as she pulled yet another leg out of a pool of mud, shaking herself like a dog in order to get rid of any mud she could. The moist substance still clung to her fur but she didn't bother to get it off all the way. She had already spent an hour in one spot trying to get rid of all of the caked mud that stuck onto her, and she was already covered in it again.

Despite her supposedly belonging in the Tangled Wood as a shadow dragon, every second Faynore spent in here just made her want to go home more and more. At least there she could just go hunting for bugs instead of traveling through the muck and weeds. But she was one of the very few shadow dragons in her clan, and everyone, including her, was eager to see what all of the fuss was about when it came to these new caves.

But heaven forbid they just go look in one of the caverns in their own territory. Nope, they had to send Faynore to see the big one, the one that was supposedly the cause of it all. The cause of all of Faynore's suffering.

She wasn't going to lie to herself, though. She was curious about these new caverns, though maybe not enough to spend days traveling through darkness just to find more darkness. She stopped complaining in her head when she reached the top of a small hill, looking below her and seeing the huge abyss.

It wasn't at all like she imagined it. It was... Horrifying. Not a single speck of light reached past the entrance, and even with her nocturnal eyes she couldn't see a thing. It wasn't even a horizontal cave, it was just a huge hole in the ground. Faynore shivered. For some reason, she didn't want to see what was the deal with all the caverns anymore.

Two small groups of dragons stood near the cave entrance. Most of them looked like warriors or hunters, but a few of them held spellbooks and the occasional grimoire. The dragons seemed to be friendly towards each other, but looked very on edge. One of them, a large, grey guardian, watched as Faynore approached the entrance. Sighing, he strode over to her, casting nervous looks into the dark cave. He stood behind her by a few paces and sat down with his weapon easily accessible next to him.

"It's terrifying, isn't it? To think that has been here all this time, and nobody knew."

Faynore looked down at the weapon with a nervous glance before looking back up at the stranger.

"There's no way it just... wasn't found. Is it possible it was recent? It's... so huge."

Faynore didn't think she could name a single dragon that was too big for that cave, and she knew lots of dragons. And the cave didn't seem... natural. It had to be dragonmade, right?

"Are you going to go in? That's what my clan sent me to do."

Faynore internally cursed her clan for sending just her. She was only one dragon! At least the other groups were sane enough to come with others.

The guardian snorted. "I couldn't see my claw in front of my face if I walked even three feet into that cave. No, a few dragons from my clan and the Mirelight clan have already gone in there. We're all out here just waiting for them to come out."

If they ever would come back out, that is.
He looked at the young skydancer for a moment, trying to figure out why they would send her instead of someone... well, larger. On the outside, she didn't seem much equipped to deal with anything that might be lurking in the cave.

"I don't think there's any dragon that lives anywhere near here that's strong enough to make something like this hole happen. Even with a team of earth dragons working night and day, someone would've noticed."

As the guardian returned his gaze to the cave entrance, he felt a familiar breeze blow past him, and a familiar voice sound from his right side.
"Any news, Threygard?"
Threygard had only met this skydancer after the earthquake, but he was starting to suspect that she wasn't just shaking because of nerves. He sighed again and glanced at the yellow skydancer, who had her eyes glued to his. It was apparent that she was immune to the sense of dread that the cave had instilled in everyone else.

"None yet, Kylai. We haven't heard from Fenall."

"How long are you going to be... just, sitting here?" Faynore looked into the hole. "Shouldn't you do something? Or... have you already tried something and failed?" The Skydancer looked at the new arrivals, her feathers fluttering in the breeze that seeped between the trees.

"The truth is, everyone who was able to go in there is already in there. Believe me, the rest of us want to go charging into that cave, but that would only make a bigger mess out of things. Bravery would wear off quick and the reality that most of us need to be able to see where we're going would kick in."

Threygard stood up and tucked his spear into his wing. "I'll leave you to do it now, just know that if you do decide to go in, you shouldn't stay for long." He walked back to his group and left the two skydancers at the entrance.

Kylai looked at Faynore, intrigued. "You're really thinking about going in there alone?"

Faynore took a deep breath. "That's what my clan sent me to do. Besides, I... Well, aren't you curious?" She looked at the Skydancer, a grimace that was trying too hard to be a smile on her face. The expression disappeared as she looked down into the hole. "It is my duty. I signed up for this."
