@Naxxe
Here's the thread! I hope you don't mind that I put way too much effort into making it fancy.
A Review of what we have:
- Houseki no Kuni is amazing (and worth every tear)
- Lunarians are cool, but cooler when they're not trying to cover the moon with the ground shards of all our favorite characters.
- Padparadscha is the #1 Best Gem
And now an introduction I wrote for the prompt, just because (sorry for the text dump, I got a little enthusiastic):
It was supposed to be impossible. Lunarians, the pale moon strangers who came to the gem-ruled remnants of Earth seeking only conquest and an end to their own eternity, were once dismissed as little more than a common enemy; the only source of conflict in their otherwise shining, perfect world. And yet. Against all odds a meeting was called between the Lunarians and Gems once upon a distant time ago, leading to a ceasefire to be called between the two races. In that span of time, these two races, once immortal enemies, joined hands as immortal friends instead. This treaty, once made, was to last as long as those who had agreed to it still lived. Which, given how both races were as immortal as they came, could be for all eternity as far as anyone is concerned.
Now, a good number of centuries has passed since that fateful bargain was struck. Though mourned by the loss of friends that couldn't be saved before the treaty was made, the remaining gems have settled into lives of relative peace alongside the Lunarians. Their numbers have only grown as time brought in new gems from the wondrous Shores of Beginnings, and between new discoveries, moon technology, and the sudden increase in the population, the original gem's hands have gotten a little full. To aid this strange new dilemma and as proof of the prosperity brought by the treaty, a lighthouse was built by the "school" the gems call home to guide any newcomers to where the gems make their homes. A pair of gems resides inside at all times, making it their responsibility to tutor the newcomers in the newfound complexities of gem life. Every fifty years, the pair who upholds this responsibility changes, making sure the trouble is evenly split in the grand scheme of things.
At least, that's how it's supposed to work in theory! As two gems are simultaneously "born" and make their way to the lighthouse, Padparadscha and their medicine-inclined parter Rutile are expected to not manage one, but two curious gems at once - twice the questions, twice the trouble. Will this intrepid pair of mentors manage to make their patience last as long as their lifespans? Will the new gems get their endless questions answered in the meantime? And will they ever get to take a Lunarian ship for a joyride under such a watchful pair? Only time will tell, and fortunately for all involved, they have all the time in the world.
And that's all I wrote. Sorry again for the wall of words, and please tell me if you'd like to change/add any details described!
