In the most remote reaches of the Alaskan wilderness, there is a secret. Magical borders camouflage this place, hiding in plain sight. Inside the borders, it is warmer than the subzero temperatures around them. It doesn't snow unless they want it to snow, doesn't rain unless they want it to rain, and the temperature is usually a comfortable seventy degrees Fahrenheit (around 21 degrees celsius). It is around the size of a small town, and to some, that's what it looks like at first glance. But this place is by no means normal.

Welcome to Portus, a haven for mythical beings.

Minerva skimmed over the freshly fallen snow. The silent beating of her wings disturbing the snow and leaving trails of the powdery substance in the air behind her. She closed her eyes, enjoying the feeling of the cold wind rushing through her feathers. It wasn't often that it snowed in Portus. She fully intended to enjoy it for as long as she could.

Eveline pulled her fur coat tighter around herself. The frosty wind bit at her ears and her face, and she hated it. "Leave me alone,"she snapped, but the wind only returned with a vengeance, sending snow into her face.

She frowned, and slipped her mask back on. The mask felt so comfortable, and it also hid her identity. Walking on the snow, she looked up, and saw a Gryphon, skimming through the snow with joy.

...dang it.

Cypress dreaded the snow, she would certainly freeze much easier than most. If not freezing to death, her scales did not agree with the snow.

The only good thing about it is that appears as if she is actually walking when the snow is high enough. She quickly sped up the pace, really hoping she was closer to her destination. She took a break, grabbing a branch and hoisting herself up, wrapping her tail around the tree. She quickly realized she WAS close. She shook herself off and let her body temperature get back to somewhat normal before continuing.

Beau floated slightly above the snowy ground, watching each little flake of snow fall from the sky. It rarely snowed in Portus; a bit of a downside, but they couldn't afford to care that much when it provided protection from the outside world. Now that it was snowing, they intended to take joy in every second of it.

They eventually stopped, lowering themselves back to the ground. They leaned against the trunk of a nearby tree, content to watch the falling snow and the clouded sky. The wind whistled past them, ruffling their light blue hair. They gave a soft hum and shut their eyes momentarily. It would get too cold to bear eventually, but for now, this was perfect.

Wandering aimlessly through the snow with a hood pulled over her head, Eveline spotted a person, leaning against a tree trunk with their eyes closed. She envied how happy and relaxed they were. How could someone be so relaxed and calm, even in this howling, biting wind and the freezing cold?

She could almost hear her sister's voice in her head, chuckling and telling her that some people were just better off than them. That she'd never be like them. And for the first time, Eveline was beginning to consider the possibility that being different was a good thing.

Minerva slowed her flight to a glide, folding her wings when her paws touched the ground at a run. She slowed from a run to a trot, and vigorously shook her whole body, spraying snow everywhere. The gryphon twitched her tail and set off at a walk for the figure of Beau she'd noticed leaning against a tree nearby. She sat down in the snow a few yards away from them, flopping down with a contented sigh. Her kind of gryphon came from the Himalayas. She was made for snow, and being surrounded by it just felt so right.

Eveline stiffened, seeing the Gryphon. She looked left and right, and slowly began edging away from them. This could get ugly fast, and she didn't want to be there when it did. Hopefully, nobody would notice if she just... disappeared...

Minerva stiffened, drawing herself silently to her feet. Something felt... off. She looked around slowly as to not miss anything. She thought she caught a glimpse of something dark, but when she looked back, there was nothing there. Her hackles slowly raised, and she let out a warning growl to whatever creature lurked within the shadows.

When Beau opened their eyes again, they noticed someone flop down nearby. They turned their head to see who it was, surprised by the sight of a... what was it called? A gryphon? That sounded about right; their parents often told them of the various mythical creatures that existed.

They couldn't help but smile a bit, seeing the gryphon look so relaxed in the snow. Taking a deep breath, they were about to say something, perhaps a greeting, when the gryphon was suddenly disturbed by something. When she emitted a warning growl, they looked concerned.

"What's wrong?" they asked softly, moving a bit closer to the gryphon and looking around for whatever could be bothering her.
